│ Digg This│ Stumble ThisThursday Sign to Epitaph
Thursday have signed to Epitaph Records and are expected to bring out a new album in the spring.
Geoff Rickley of Thursday said:
"One of our biggest concerns was that we find a situation where we could be free to just be Thursday, Epitaph have continually voiced their desire to help us become the band that we have always wanted to be. It's a great feeling to have a label encourage you to be more socially conscious and politically active. It's a great feeling to have a label owner push you to explore the most experimental and challenging aspects of your band's music instead of dissuading you. It's a truly great feeling to be working with a label that all of our friends have had so many great experiences with. We've always believed that music has the power to change lives and that all of us who have been lucky enough to make music for a living have a responsibility to try and make the world a more compassionate and livable place in any small way that they can," Rickly adds. "We hope that with Epitaph's help and guidance, we can do our part."

Tom Gabel will hit the road without his Against Me! bandmates on October 31st. Tom will be joined by Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Ben Nichols (Lucero), and Tim Barry (Avail) on the Revival Tour. The frontmen will trade off playing solo sets of their own songs as well as collaborating on each others material.
Gabel is launching the tour in support of his upcoming seven-song solo EP, entitled "Heart Burns," which will be released on CD, digitally and on vinyl by Sire Records on October 28th. Inspired by the country's current political and cultural landscape, Gabel began to write new songs in January. Due to the topical and timely subject matter, he wanted to release them around the upcoming Presidential election.
The centerpiece of the EP is "Anna Is A Stool Pigeon," which Gabel wrote after reading about environmental activist Eric McDavid (www.supporteric.org) who was convicted in 2007 of conspiring to use explosives to damage corporate and government property after being implicated by an undercover FBI informant who posed as an activist. McDavid's defense has argued that he was the victim of entrapment. He currently faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
"What struck me most about the story was a sense of familiarity," Gabel says. "I know the scene he was a part of, I used to be a part of it myself. I've thought the same thoughts, talked the same talk. I've hung out with the same people, gone to similar protests. If Eric could have become the target of an FBI sting operation, then so could I. This could have been me."

The All-American Rejects are scheduled to release their eagerly awaited third album WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN, on November 18th on DGC/Interscope and Doghouse. The new album follows-up the RIAA double-platinum Move Along, released July 2005. WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN is The All-American Rejects’ first project with veteran producer Eric Valentine, known for his work with multi-platinum artists Maroon 5, Smash Mouth, Good Charlotte, Queens Of the Stone Age, and more. “Gives You Hell” has been chosen as the first single, and fans can now stream it for free on Imeem. Head over to http://www.imeem.com/theallamericanrejects/music/UP1qxdJz/the_allamerican_rejects_gives_you_hell/ to check it out. “It’s what we were put on this earth to create,” says Tyson Ritter of the new album. “This record hasn’t been smooth sailing,” confesses Nick of WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN. The new album was conceived from one end of the country to the other – from a secluded cabin in the Georgia wilderness (where “Mona Lisa” came to be), to a little place that Ty and Nick have on Florida’s Gulf Coast (“The Real World”), to the back of a bus cruising Interstate 10 (“Breaking's What the Heart Is For”), and yet another road trip (this one to Vancouver, for “Gives You Hell”). AAR’s first duet, “Another Heart Calls,” features the hypnotic vocals of The Pierces, two sisters from

The album will feature guest appearences from Brendon urie, Chris Conley and Max Bemis. Lead singer Thomas Dutton posted the following on the band's blog:
Pete Wentz comments on new album artwork
Fall Out Boy bassist, Pete Wentz, has commented on his personal blog about the band's latest album's artwork 'Folie a Deux':
"we’ve been receiving many questions in the Q and A… as well many of the dedicated critics of lifestyle and curators of the douche bag list over at absolutepunk.net (the only website i can say i have followed from the conception of our band all the way through the present) about our cover art. well, we decided to ask luke chueh, a favorite of ours to commission a piece. we were sure this would never happen. this would be like watching a midtown reunion on the moon while high fiving mark hoppus because Blink would be playing next. or for me having a real han solo (like but actually the real harrison ford) in carbonite on my wall, frozen forever… then luke said yes. we gave him the title of the record and the basic concept. he came up with everything else. in my mind he is one of the greats in contemporary art. and i will go out on a limb and say this is the best cover we have ever made (simply because we werent involved in it in the slightest).
now i must applaud you for getting all the way here before writing “total fail” or “i hate it how this guy just ——-s so hard and than is just such a ——-“. i would also appreciate you checking the link and getting to know Lukes art if you are unfamiliar with it.
and for those who dont care at all and just want a pay off of some sort- at least every once in awhile i deliver you a present wrapped just for you. i mean, come on me and spencer pratt getting knocked out at the same time in a video. thats like getting two d-bags with one stone….
and on a side note: none of the guests but the ones we have named are currently on the record, to clear that up.
question of the day: what did you think of the debate?
and ps: commenters thanks for taking it easy on me i had a crappy week for personal reasons. next week lets get back to usual."

│ Digg This│ Stumble ThisAlbum Review: Bring Me The Horizon - Suicide Season
Bring Me The Horizon are like marmite, some people love them, whilst some hate them. The latter's reason consisting of the band being nothing more than another myspace/Kerrang-hyped band with there image being more centered on than their music. On the other side the band are adored by a mainly young and even more dominate female fan base.
This is album number 2 for the Sheffield 5-Piece, made up of Oli Sykes on vocals, Lee Malia on lead guitar, Curtis Ward on rhythm guitar, Matt Kean and Matt Nicholls on bass and drums respectively. 'Suicide Season' sees the band having a point to prove and taking a somewhat different musical direction, to 2006's Count Your Blessings, which was mainly a deathcore record.
'Suicide Season' sees the band taking a more experimental approach by incorporating drum samples and guest vocalists in the form of JJ Peters of Deez Nuts, Sam Carter of Architects. The album starts off with lead off single 'The Comedown', which the band picking up where they left off, with pounding drums, sharp guitars and Sykes' vocals sounding more raw yet distinguishable. 'Chelsea Smile' shows the band display better song structure, which is also shown in 'It Was Written In Blood' and 'Sleep With One Eye Open'.
Nevertheless 'No Need For Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You On The Backs Of Toilet Doors' sees the band being as fast and angry as ever. The highlight track of the album is 'The Sadness Will Never End', a song that starts atmospheric before the tracks pulls you in by the neck with Sykes and Sam Carter having a shouting match before going into a somewhat catchy chorus, for Bring Me The Horizon standards and could possibly be mistaken for an Alexisonfire or Atreyu song. The album closes with the title track which sounds like the world is about to end (or maybe because it's Suicide Season?), however at 8 minutes long, the track sees the band using both heavy and soft elements and closes the album well.
'Suicide Season' much like the band, will have a split opinion. Some will be surprised by the band's more structured and improved sound, whilst some will hate it and will plead for the band's "br00tal" sound to return. However this won't happen, as 'Suicide Season' shows the band has matured and progressed as a whole, with Sykes vocals and Malia's riffs being examples of this.
6/10

EP Review: Lights - Lights EP (Self Titled)
There's something special about solo female singer, Valerie Poxleitner from Toronto, Canada who goes under the name 'Lights', who currently has a self-titled EP available on Doghouse Records. But what it is that something special? Is it her sweet angelic voice complimenting her harmonic electro pop music? which she created in her bedroom. Well simply the answer is yes.
Lights is something I would not usually listen to but this EP grabbed me and made me feel good. With songs like 'Ice' and 'Drive Me Soul' being 1980's new wave-influenced sensations with Lights showcasing her superb vocals.
'February Air' is well-written and is reminiscent of Imogen Heap and Bjork and shows that Lights is an innocent and emotional person. 'White' is bouncy song with Lights' high-pitched vocals being layered on top of a guitar-driven chorus. 'I Owe You One' is a sweet electro ballad and the EP closes with 'The Last Thing On Your Mind' being a synth-heavy track filled with Lights' positive lyrics.
Overall 'Lights' fantastically showcases an independent pop female singer, who has the songs, vocal talent and looks to succeed. This collection of 8 songs will make you feel good and forget about your troubles. The only downfall of the EP is that at times, she reminds you of cheesy euro-pop.
For fans of: PlayRadioPlay! and Imogen Heap

│ Digg This│ Stumble ThisInterview: Secret Lives Of The Freemasons
We recently conducted an interview with North Carolina's own Secret Lives of the Freemasons. Frontman Brien Worsham was nice enough to answer a few questions for Alter The Press...enjoy!
Alter The Press: Greetings from England! Firstly, the question everyone is asking, when will you be touring the UK?
Brien Worsham: We hoped to be in the UK next month but that fell through. We hope to be coming over in 09 however!
ATP: What is your extent of knowledge of the UK?
BW: I think I fall into the "stupid american" slot on that one. I don't know very much at all. Some good friends of ours in a band called Sanctity have toured the UK a lot so we always get some amazing story's! We can't wait to come party!
ATP: Each album is equally good as the other, but what made you take a slightly different musical approach on 'Weekend Warriors'?
BW: We realized the breakdown stuff was becoming more popular and we knew what it was going to turn into. We knew it was something we wouldn't agree wit. We just decided to go with a more pop attitude for the new record. We all love bands like Saves The Day, The Get Up Kids and Lifetime. We just wanted to be like bands that we grew up on.
ATP: What bands influenced you to make the music that you do with Secret Lives?
BW: So much music influences us. I love all kinds of music. From HxC to hip hop to country. I'm really al over the place with my music taste. I just don't really want to have a limit to what I feel I can listen to. We love every kind of music for what it is. I guess you can say we're influenced by it all.
ATP: Will 'Robots' (Brien's side project) become a focused side project or is it more a hobby?
BW: When I get home from tour, I plan to make Robots a more focused project. I'm really into the direction its going at the moment. We are working on a new record called 'Young Dirty'. Should be done with it in early 09. We have an EP done at the moment that we are going to be put on our MySpace for free.
ATP: You just toured across with The Sleeping across the US, how did that go?
BW: Amazing! We love those guys so much. They really are a true blessing to be on the road with. Great dudes and an amazing band. Such talent. Our response has been really good too. Kids have been digging us so thats good! Haha!
ATP: What does the future hold for Secret Lives?
BW: We are actually going to start work on a new record. We know that we just had one come out but those songs are actually about a year and a half old to us. The new stuff that we are working on at the moment is very oceanic. I'm stoked for people to hear what we are really capable of.

More importantly the show - gig entry is free but here's the catch - invites will only be sent to the bands MySpace, Facebook and Bebo friends and posted on the bands iLike page later this week. So you've got to be in it to win it. We will randomly select 70 replies across the board from those who get their replies in first (or in the case of iLike who post on the fan wall) and those lucky people will have their names added to the guest list on the door. There will be no +1s, so one entry per person. If you want to be in with a chance of getting into this ace gig make sure you're a member of one or all of the above official groups/pages and watch out for an announcement in the coming days.
