Single Review: The Auteur - Hey Watch This...

Finally after 7 month wait, The Auteur's LAB Records debut is about to happen. However a full release will have to wait till June, but in the mean time the Brighton four-piece have given 3 little gems in the form of new single 'Hey Watch This...'

The single has everything all the elements from a British powerpop band; a catchy chorus, banging drums, great production and Alex Rumble's brilliant vocals soars above good rhythm guitars. It even has a nice sing-a-long section, that is yearning for you to join in wherever you are.

The 2 b-sides on the single are demos of 'To Cut A Short Story Shorter' and 'Trampoline', both which further proof that The Auteur are one of the most exciting bands in the British independent scene today. 'To Cut A Short Story Shorter' is led by a twisty guitar riff, that shows the band can not only write good songs but they can also play pretty well too. Whilst 'Trampoline' is a more rocking affair, it still has that rich pop undertone that The Autuer do so well.

'Hey Watch This..' proves several things. Firstly it proves that guitar-based powerpop can be done better then their American counterparts can do across the pond. In addition to this, it proves The Autuer are definitely one to look out for this year. They are a band with so much energy and potential. Personally I think they could achieve the same level of success as You Me At Six.

If this single is just a glimpse of things to come, then expectations for The Auteur's new EP in June will definitely rise.

5/5
