Album Review: mewithoutYou - it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright!

Four albums into their career, mewithoutYou have done it yet again. The Philidelphia folk-band with every release manage to break old habits and create new bridges with their brand of folk-rock.

'it's all crazy, it's all false, it's all a dream, it's alright!' starts off where their last record 'Brother, Sister' left off; from closing track, 'In A Sweater Poorly Knit' with the same melody continuing into album opener 'every thought a Thought of You'.

The album is very much like 'Brother, Sister' but more emphasis on folk than rock. It speaks the teachings of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, with the album title taken from parable 518 in the book 'The Golden Words of a Sufi Sheikh' and the majority of the songs including 'Fig with a Bellyache' and 'Allah! Allah! Allah!'.

Vocalist Aaron Weiss is now very much melodic with his lyrics rather than his trademark spoken-word vocals but still manages to keep the same style that everyone knows and loves about the band.

The band have completely drifted away from their previous style of lyrical angst to spirituality, peace and music which is so irresistably good, it could make anyone get up and join in with the celebration which is life.

In times where the majority of the new music nowadays is the same generic, churned out, repetitive garbage, its so refreshing to pick up an album where every song is a blessing to listen to. Tracks such as 'the Fox, the Crow and The Cookie' and 'Allah! Allah! Allah!' make the the album a joy to listen to each time. If you are looking for a great recommendation of new music, pick up mewithoutYou's latest album. It's a beautiful work of art which shouldn't be missed out on.
