Album Review: The New 1920 - The New 1920 EP

Hailing from what seems to be the breeding ground of British rock music the past few years, Wales. The New 1920 could be the next thing, especially after support slots with fellow Welshmen Kids In Glass Houses and Lostprophets, whom of which 3 members (Stuart Richardson, Mike Lewis and Ian Watkins) produced this 4-track EP.

'Come Around' is a punchy affiar with a swinging tempo and tight playing. It's a nice way introduction, it's not much and simple in structure. Whilst 'Ample Gambler' sounds bitter and edgier before bursting into a full-on rocking chours, that will soon become memorable after a few listens. 'Head For The Exit' is a fun and quite poppy number with its steady pace and a hint of punk rock. The EP ends with a live acoustic track called 'Keep On', a simple song which would have more effect, if it was a full band. However does it does round off the EP well.

The quartet overall are straight forward and to an extent play it safe, but it works for them and is ideal to the style of music they play. These 4 tracks show a band with a lot of promise and potential. We'll have to wait and see what the next step will be for The New 1920.

'The New 1920 EP' by The New 1920 is released on July 20th through Different Smoke.
