Album Review: Kong - Snake Magnet

Manchester's Kong have thrown out the rule book with their debut album, 'Snake Magnet'. Throughout the record the bands approach is sparadic and is on the edge of insane, with tracks like 'Leather Penny' making little to no sense at all with the bands somewhat unconventional style proving something to admired for.

As the record goes, the trio keep up the momentum with rough, screeching guitars and bass driven songs like 'Blood of a Dove' and 'Count to Nine'. Whilst tracks like 'Wet Your Knives' and 'Gwant' twist and turn in their timing and complex structure.

The band show their experimental side constantly through the record, especially on 'Good Graphics' a dirty bass driven and instrument-heavy track with electronic beeps popping randomly throughout. It leaves you thinking what the hell are this band on?

Despite Kong's experimental and insane approach, ironically 'Snake Magnet' it somehow flows easy and seems consistent and progressive. However I will warn you this is no record to relax to or listen to a nice summers day, its dark, dirty and may just make you got a bit insane.

3/5
