Album Review: Pipedream - Let The Rumours Flow

Norway's Pipedream could be described as your basic indie rock band. However if you listen to their new EP, 'Let The Rumours Flow', you will find the 5-piece sneak in prog-rock elements and throughout they are able to build a captivating atmosphere.

Tracks like 'You'll Never Catch Gold' are tight and go along at a steady pace, showcasing Kjell Ove's high-toned voice. Whilst 'Never Mind The Magazines' gets your attention with a near-pop chorus and soft keys that are pleasing on the ear.

The title track is next and slides in, as the band goes along at a slow burning pace that grabs your attention and also shows their tightness. 'Sunny Day' is Pipedream at their most upbeat and is reminiscent of 'Hot Fuss'-era Killers.

Closing track, 'Needles & Fires' keeps up the tempo with crashing cymbals dominating throughout and brings the EP overall to a nice end.

'Let The Rumours Flow' is an enjoyable EP and at times sounds refreshing, as the band concentrate more on their performance rather than being catchy. In addition to this the bands use of keys and ability of to write all-round attention-grabbing songs, adds depth and shows potential.

3.5/5
