Interview: The Mission District

With the release of their forthcoming single 'So Over You' approaching fast, we at Alter The Press! put together some quick fire questions for The Mission District's front man, David Rancourt.

David gave Alter The Press! a brief introduction to the bands history, UK pastimes, news about the forthcoming single and more.

Alter The Press: How did The Mission District come together as a band?
David Rancourt: We had nothing to do during one hot summer so we decided to get together and put together a band.

ATP: Where did your name originate from? Anything to do with the Mission District in San Francisco?
DR: Yes. My mom’s side of the family is from San Francisco and I lived there as a kid, so it has kind of a nostalgic connotation for me.

ATP: You are no strangers now to visiting the UK, any pastimes you can share? Favorite town?
DR: We love London; it is such a huge amazing city. Mostly we just love having some down time at the pub, eating a good meal and having a few drinks.

ATP: You first came over to the UK with Simple Plan, how did you end up being booked on the tour?
DR: We have the same booking agent over there, and I think Simple Plan liked our music and decided it might be fun to have another Canadian band on tour with them.

ATP:'So Over You' - what is the song about?
DR: It is about that first day where you finally get over your break up with someone. You finally feel yourself again, free from that attachment.

ATP: Starsmith remixed the track as well, how was it working with him?
DR: It was awesome. He did such a good job re-interpreting the song.

ATP: 'Youth Games' - you're first full length album, when can we expect a UK release?
DR: Early 2010.

ATP: How do you're Canadian fans differ from the fans in the UK?
DR: They are all amazing; we love them both so much!

ATP: Influences?
DR: The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Indochine, The Cars, Bloc Party, The Killers, Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Weezer, The Get Up Kids, The Rentals, That Dog.

ATP: Apparently Perez Hilton is a fan of the band?
DR: Yea, he is really into music and is always ahead of the curve!

ATP: What can we expect from you're forthcoming UK tour?
DR: A lot of hot, packed, fun and sweaty shows!

ATP: After the tour, what can we expect from TMD for the rest of 2009?
DR: More singles, more tours, and lots of new webisodes up on our community website youthgames.tv

The Mission District’s new single ‘So Over You’ is out on 10 August on Relentless Records and will be touring the UK this September. Make sure to check back then for a full length interview.
