Album Review: Phantom Theory/Gunning For Tamar – Split EP

Oxford's Phantom Theory kick off this split EP with the moody ‘Trancedog’ a fairly boring song that’s poorly produced and poorly executed, where they go for atmospheric they end up with woefully disjointed.

Things don’t improve much with next song ‘Playground’ it is a slight improvement, but like I said, not by much at all. The main riff running through the song is annoying but it does build up nicely to a good outro.

Gunning For Tamar take over to try and rescue the EP and to be fair, their first song, ‘The Organs, The Senses, The Muscles, The Memories’ does provide an improvement albeit a slight one. It’s a slow song that manages to build on a decent sounding atmosphere.

Final song ‘Norse Blood’ doesn’t really offer any alternative, it’s a boring affair that’s not really impressing nor does it offer any potential.

Overall this isn’t very impressive at all and I was quite glad to turn it off.
