Album Review: Save Your Breath - Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy

Having signed to Adeline Records in the US, ‘Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy’ is the Welsh Pop-Punk bands first release overseas and one that will surely see the band continue to grow after gaining a good reputation back in the UK.

First things first, this EP is jam packed with absolute hits, starting off in fine form with ‘xRYx Almost Died At A Foam Party’ which eases almost effortlessly into ‘Holy Shit! Fortune Teller, Miracle Fish’ which is catchy as hell. ‘Not In The Mood For Kiwi’ is one of the bands more recognisable songs, it’s huge and contains a solo that’ll almost melt your face off.

The pace shows no signs of letting up with ‘I Am The Ticket!?’ and while this song isn’t as instant as the others it’s still catchy. I’d say the only thing that slightly lets the album down is ‘You’ve Got Lizard Blood’ which isn’t exactly boring, it’s just average compared to what else is on offer.

Perhaps the bands defining moment on the EP is ‘Rhys-O And The Legend Of Big Phone’ the gang vocals at the end are sure to be a crowd favourite and they also lend a somewhat epic, atmospheric edge to counter the pure pop offered so far, it shows a great diversity in the band. This US release also sees two bonus tracks in the form ‘Your Oven’s On Fire’ and ‘Bin Laden Saw Your Slogan T-shirt And Now He’s Got A Rap Career’ both songs are good enough and would fit in well with the album, but it’s best to treat them as they are really, glorified B-sides.

All in all, Save Your Breath are one of the more promising pop-punk bands to come out of the UK scene, having just changed singer, it’s a make or break moment for them in terms of their next release, having already heard some new stuff, I think that this band are destined for big things, with 'Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy' being the first step towards that.
