Album Review: We Are The In Crowd - Guaranteed To Disagree EP

On first look it would be easy to dismiss We Are The In Crowd as just another pop rock quintet following in the footsteps of Paramore, but that would be too easy. ‘Guaranteed To Disagree’ is full to the brim with hooks and melodies, guaranteed to get teen girls singing their little hearts out, crafted and recorded by Zack & Kenneth (All Time Low, Jimmy Eat World) to perfection.

Tay Jardine storms straight out of the blocks on opening track ‘Carry Me Home’, displaying flawless sugar coated vocals, against surging power chords. A clear indication of how the band means to go on. Guitarist and singer Jorden Eckes is just as powerful, helping to deliver perfectly balanced melodies and dual vocals alongside Tay. ‘Never Be What You Want’ features Will Pugh of Cartel, whose vocal style fits snugly into the track, offering a lot more than just a throwaway guest vocal.

The singles ‘Both Sides Of The Story’ and ‘Lights Out’ are obvious stand outs, full of energy and catchy chorus’s that won’t escape your tongue. Though leave you questioning whether this band are actually bringing anything new or fresh to a table already overflowing with pop rock bands alike.

Sixth track ‘For The Win’ keeps the momentum going with the use of strong harmonies and closing track ‘Calendar Pages’ brings an end to this well crafted but overall uninspiring EP.

It’s hard to see them reaching an audience above the young teen bracket, as there’s nothing here to challenge listeners, especially lyrically. But its summer after all and it’s definitely uplifting. It’s just hard to see it being anything more than this; however with the support of Hopeless Records and a spot on Warped Tour it won’t be long until they hit the mainstream and it’s not hard to see why.

3.5/5
