Album Review: Less Than Jake - TV/EP

The task of reviewing a 11 minute album made up of TV theme tunes and US commercial jingles is quite difficult. This is purely for the face there isn't much to say about 'TV/EP', it's a simple concept that is pretty harmless and dosen't offer much in terms of variation. It's basically Less Than Jake performing ska-punk covers of well-known and unknown TV themes (anyone know whats 'Laverne & Shirley' ?).

Whilst their take on cartoon themes like 'Animaniacs', 'Scooby Doo' and 'Sponge Bob Square Pants' are pulled off pretty well, and fit the ska-punk mould. Elsewhere 'Malcolm In The Middle' and 'That 70's Show' sound exactly how you'd expect them to be; Less Than Jake performing a ska cover of a popular TV theme.

One of my problems was the inclusion US commercial themes, basically if you don't live in the US, tracks like 'Kit Kat' and 'Free Credit Report.com sound somewhat alien.

Nevertheless you can't pick any major faults with 'TV/EP' because there isn't any to pick. For true, die-hard fans this will be another stop-gap release to add to their collection. For others this can be forgotten until the next full-length Less Than Jake release, as 'TV/EP' is your typical cliché ska-punk themed cover release.

2.5/5
