Album Review: The City Lives - The City Lives EP

There is a surplus of many things in the world today. Some examples would be information on the internet, political debates, and middle of the road alt-rock. Standing out today is important, so how does The City Lives’ self-titled EP differentiate itself from its peers? It’s pretty good, for starters.

Over the course of the five tracks ‘The City Lives’ takes listeners through well trod, radio friendly alt-rock territory, with upbeat anthems and slowed down tracks.

Highlights include “You Told A Lie”, a slower jam with sweeping guitar licks and impressive falsetto vocals from frontman Chase Kerby, and “O.E.T.A.”, a track with anthemic choruses and enough swagger to be a contender for a single. The weakest track of the bunch is closer “You Gotta Let Go”.

‘The City Lives’ is a strong effort from Oklahoma five piece, The City Lives. In a world full of cheesy alt-rock anthems, it’s good to know at least one band is doing things right.

3/5
