Album Review: The Life I Lead - Me Against You

Will 2011 be the year of the pop-punk resurgence? If The Life I Lead’s new EP, 'Me Against You', is any indication of things to come, it just might be. 'Me Against You' is a good EP, despite some missteps.

'Me Against You' starts off strong with ‘Bright Lights’, a strong track that opens with gang vocals and an infectious chorus. While the lyrical content isn’t necessarily groundbreaking, there are no glaring lyrical problems. 'Me Against You' makes an immediate turn to the slower 'Confide’. ‘Confide’ showcases frontman Jay Aguirre’s vocals well, and is a nice, if somewhat moody detour from the other tracks on the EP.

The highlights of 'Me Against You' are definitely ‘Bright Lights’ and ‘When Actors Stop Acting’, a straightforward pop-punk anthem that catches listeners’ attention from the first note and won’t let go. 'When Actors Stop Acting' has a small issue with the mix in the last 30 seconds of the track, but doesn’t detract from the greatness of the song. Title track, ‘Me Against You’ is a fun, bouncy affair with a sweeping chorus that is on par with the other two tracks mentioned above. ‘Send Love’ is probably the weakest track of the bunch.

With 2011 almost upon us, it’s time to look forward to bands that will be doing great things in the next year. The Life I Lead could be one of those bands if they keep moving forward and resolve the small issues as they go.
