Album Review: Marmozets - Passive Aggressive

Want a new favourite band? Of course you ruddy do, and if you want my advice, look no further than this Northern bunch, with their unique brand of edgy Alternative Pop; Marmozets are a band that with their first proper release in ‘Passive Aggressive‘, have given something, which in my opinion, considering their respective ages is absolutely spectacular.

This seven track mini-album begins with ‘Collisions’ a fast paced, furious song with an incredibly catchy chorus blending effortlessly to next track “Lives” an angst driven number that will inevitably draw comparisons to what could be described as an edgier version of Paramore, that being said the technical ability of Marmozets is far, far superior, they sound on occasion like the offspring of The Fall Of Troy, “Mister Danger” further enhances this opinion, and this is by no means a bad thing.

“Back To Blackout” carries on the form this album maintains throughout, with an absolutely massive hook that’ll have the kids singing along, special praise however I guess goes to “The Perfect Beverage” recently featuring on Punktastics' 'Off The Rails' compilation, it’s 6 minutes 20 seconds of pure brilliance, from the technical intro, to the absolutely epic outro, it’s a song that is constantly in your face, and you honestly can’t get enough.

Everything after “The Perfect Beverage” kind of pales in comparison, I don’t even mean to say that as a negative, more of a salute to how good that song is, that being said, the quality of the album doesn’t decline, it’s really a case of more of the same, “My Friend” kind of lulls along while “Time For Answers” is a very fitting song to end on, again with a verse that maintains quality and a very catchy chorus, it’s a formula that’s always going to win.

What Marmozets have achieved here, is reminiscent to what the boys in Straight Lines did last year, and that was to come out with a release from nowhere, that has quite honestly just steamrolled through every review and coming out brimming with positivity, this band is brilliant and so is this release, I can only urge you to check it out as soon as possible.

5/5
