Album Review: Go Radio - Lucky Street

Having already released two EP’s, Go Radio's ful- length debut album has been due to drop with the weight of expectation on its shoulders, some bands might consider this a hindrance, but Go Radio have taken that expectation and delivered an album that has exceeded it.

'Lucky Street' kicks off with perhaps the strongest trio of songs on the record, setting a welcome precedent for the rest of the album, 'Singing With The King' is perhaps the best song they’ve written, from its surging verses to it’s absolutely huge chorus, it will be a massive fan favourite and 'Strength To Stay' carries on that momentum, while not as immediately impressionable as the previous three songs, Jason Lancasters vocal abilities come to the forefront, something that is a common theme throughout the album.

What we see for the rest of the album, is a varied record that swaps between the fast paced guitar driven songs such as 'Kill The Beast', to songs that are completely stripped down, almost ballad-esque songs, 'Why I’m Home' once again highlights Lancaster's impressive vocals, and most importantly, none of the slower songs feel like filler at all, they have relevance to the rest of the record and that’s an important thing to maintain.

One stand out track and one I know that a lot of people have been waiting for, is the reworking of the fan favourite 'Forever My Father' a song written by Lancaster about his Father, and while it loses some of the raw feeling from the original, his vocals somehow feel more powerful and heartfelt than ever, and as we get the end of the album again the songs remain to a massively high standard, 'House Of Hallways' has already been labelled as another favourite by fans and reviewers alike, while 'Redemption In This Verse' rivals 'Singing With The King' as the best song on the album with it’s sing along outro being one of the best moments on the album.

The only drawback of this album, and it’s not a major one is the sheer length of it, you’ll have to put away the best part of an hour to get through it, and while it’s a pleasure to do so, at points songs like 'Hold On' can drag a bit, but that only stands as a testament to the strength of the songs around it.

In all honesty I’ve been struggling to write a review for this record, but only because I’ve enjoyed it so much, that I haven’t been able to do it justice in my own words, 'Lucky Street' is an absolutely massive album, a lot of thought and creativity has gone into it and it shows, it’s one of my favourites of the year so far and I have no doubts that it’ll be in my top 10 come December.
