Album Review: Hit The Lights - Invicta EP

With an eagerly anticipated full-length album due out in early 2012, Hit The Lights have offered something in the form of a teaser with the three-track ‘Invicta’ EP, a release that unfortunately doesn’t quite hit the heights that the band are aiming for.

Kicking things off with ‘Gravity,’ the first thing that’s noticeable is the sheer lack of production. Everything sounds a bit flat, Nick Thompson’s vocals sound pitchy and weak and the song follows a basic formula that is predictable, while ‘Earthquake’ largely suffers the same fate thanks to the production values gone into the song, where you can clearly see the direction in which Hit The Lights are going. After a few listens, it does get begin to make sense but it never quite breaches the anthemic vibe they’re aiming for.

It really doesn’t really get much better with closer 'All The Weight.' It does seem as if the band are suffering with a massive lack of a creative spark, it’s tedious and Hit The Lights really are so much better than this.

You can only hope the band hit a song writing stride and take their time by making the next full-length as good as it possibly can and should be and as for this EP, to put it simply, it’s a dud and better best forgotten.

2/5

'Invicta' is out November 1st.
