Album Review: Dia Frampton - Red

Dia Frampton, of Meg & Dia fame made a recent storm on the internet with her beautiful take on such songs as Mumford & Sons’ ‘The Cave,’ but her solo album ‘Red’ reveals that she’s much more than a beautiful voice. The album boasts creative experiments that break out of that acoustic/pop range and break into several impressive venues, with Kid Cudi joining her on the heavily pop-orientated ‘Don’t Kick The Chair’, which next to the consecutive ‘Isabella’ is about as contrasting as you can get, the latter reveling in a harmonious country jamboree of the kind that could cheer up even the most cynical of music fans.

It’s not just the music however, that makes listening to Dia Frampton so upbeat and fun to listen to, the lyrics are about the most fun you can have with your clothes on, those for ‘Isabella’ seeking to inspire a sense of childish wonder and awe that never takes itself too seriously.

The range of styles is both refreshing and reliable in ‘Red’, from pop-orientated styles to country-fuelled journies through the countryside and with all manner of in-betweens, this album can touch the heart in any number of ways but the fun factor by far outweighs the rest, and if any listener can finish listening to this album without so much as a smirk then they truly aren’t listening at all.

4/5

'Red' is out now.
