March 28th, 2012 - Sconyers Bar-B-Que

Barbecue is the jam! I love me some good ol pulled pork, that's for sure.

In Augusta we have a local BBQ place called "Sconyers Bar-B-Que". It's pit cooked, good old fashion barbecue. They are only open Thursday-Saturday so you'll find yourself craving Sconyers on days you can't have it. (isn't that how it always goes? Haha).

The first thing you'll notice when you sit down is the half fresh loaf of bread on your table

I have no clue why this bread is so friggin' soft but it is. It's softer than any bread I've ever bought at a store. I don't get it. It's great!

There's also 3 sauces to choose from on the table. There's the clear bottle which is a vinegar base, the red bottle which is a hot, and the yellow which is a milder sweet sauce.

All the sauces are great but my personally favorite is the yellow bottle.

Sconyers has a nice list of items to choose from on their menu. It ranges from ribs, to BBQ chicken, to pulled pork, to turkey.

First things first... You gotta order a big side of their sweet pickles!

The pickles are sweet and crinkle cut (which is my favorite type of pickle!). If you're pickle fan, you'll have no problem polishing off this bowl of em'!

I ordered the small barbecue pork plate for my meal. That consists of pulled pork, rice and hash, and your choice of either coleslaw or potato salad. For my sides, I decided to go with hash w/ no rice and get extra hash instead of the coleslaw and potato salad.

So why no rice with my hash you ask? Well I don't want to waste valuable stomach space on rice that will swell up in my belly. I'd rather have that room for the delicious pork and hash!

The pulled pork has a great smoky flavor without being over powering. It's nice and juicy too. I like to mix my pork and my hash together and then squirt the yellow bottle of sauce all over it. This is absolute BBQ heaven! The creaminess of the hash goes so well with the pork. Then the sweetness of the sauce ties it all together. I usually just eat this with a fork but it is also very good to slap this "concoction" on that super soft bread I mentioned earlier :)
