August 15th, 2012: Country Pancake House (Ridgewood, NJ)

My two favorite TV channels are The Travel Channel and Food Network. I love these channels because they always have shows on about food. Travel Channel has two shows in particular that they'll play every now and again. They're called "101 Places To Chow Down" and "Extreme Pig Outs". They go to all these different restaurants, diners, fast food, etc places and showcase the best places to get a big, delicious meal. One of the places they go to on those shows is "Country Pancake House". Well Country Pancake House just happens to be only about 15 minutes from where my band is recording our new record in NJ! So of course I went!

Country Pancake House is known for their pancakes and their HUGE portions of food but what makes this place so special is that their pancakes are enormous! When I say enormous I mean a pancake the size of a medium pizza. That's big!

There is a lot to choose from on the menu. They have over 100 of different pancakes to choose from as well as tons of other breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections. I came for one reason though and that was to order the 2 over-sized pancakes as seen on TV.

When you first arrive they bring out a basket of cornbread topped with chocolate chips. It's a nice little appetizer and is very tasty. I only took a couple of bites cause I wanted to make sure I had plenty of room to tackle my two over-sized pancakes.

Now let's get to the good stuff, My pancakes! I ordered the #6, oversized, which is Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberries in them.

When they brought out these pancakes I was shocked! They were HUGE!! The size is almost equivalent to a medium pizza and these pancakes were thick. I laid my fork on top of the pancakes just to show the size:

Needless to say, I WAS SO PUMPED TO TACKLE THESE PANCAKES!

With pancakes this size you sort of wonder how will they taste? Will they be moist or dry? No one wants a dry pancake, that's for sure. Well let me tell you, these pancakes were very tasty! They weren't dry at all. There was also plenty of blueberries throughout the pancakes. I spread butter over the top and dug in. I don't usually use syrup on my pancakes because I personally just enjoy the taste of the pancake itself. Butter is the only addition I need. I'd say half of one of these over-sized pancakes is probably about 3 normal sized pancakes you'd get at an IHOP or somewhere. About halfway through my first pancake the blueberries began to became to sweet to me. At first they were great! (and if I were eating just a normal stack of pancakes they probably would of been fine) So as I was eating the pancake I had to start picking out the blueberries, not because they were bad but just because I had eaten so many, haha. I could have finished the entire first pancake but Patrick, our guitar player, had ordered an omelette from there. He couldn't finish the omelette (it was massive as well) so I ate some of his omelette too! Very tasty as well!

Here is what was left over after I finished eating:

Considering I only had a few bites left of the first pancake and having ate some of the omelette that Patrick had ordered, I think I did pretty well! I took the second pancake to go because I didn't even get to it. These pancakes were so big and two of the over-sized pancakes could very well feed four people easy.

Over all I would definitely go back and order the pancakes again! I might try just the regular pancakes or maybe even one of their other varieties that they have. Country Pancake House is awesome. If you ever get a chance go and order the massive pancakes!
