ATP! Live Review: Fall Out Boy - The Rave, Milwaukee, WI

On May 14, 2009, Fall Out Boy played their last show at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI for the Believers Never Die Part Deux Tour.

On May 14, 2013, Fall Out Boy finally returned to a sold out crowd. “We’ve missed you guys so much,” Patrick Stump tells the audience after the ending cords of 'Thriller' play.

Gone are the sideburns, heavy eyeliner, and long hair (except guitarist Joe Trohman…mostly because it’s Joe) but in its place are four happier, healthier men that sound phenomenal. Their stage presence is much more prominent, they’re more in tune with each other and their instruments, and most importantly, they looked like they belonged on that stage.

Their set list ranged from 'Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today' to 'Hum Hallelujah' to 'Save Rock and Roll' with hits like 'This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race' and 'Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down' in between, keeping the audience constantly in motion. The crowd resembled a tsunami – constantly slamming into the barricades the way waves crash onto the shore during the storm. Circle pits opened in multiple areas around the stage and crowd surfing was in full effect. It was your typical Fall Out Boy show in the best way possible.

The night wouldn’t be complete without some banter from Pete Wentz and he delivered the song introductions that Fall Out Boy fans have come to love over the past ten years as well as a compelling speech thanking the fans for “being the marketing plan.” As noted in recent interviews, Pete spoke on the making of this record and how it was recorded secretly in order for them to deliver a record that was what they wanted to make. Tuesday’s show proved to the “big guys” that this record didn’t need a marketing plan, it already had one: the fans. Believers Never Die.
