Taylor Swift Has Sold 1.287 Million Copies of '1989' In First Week

It's official: Taylor Swift has sold 1.287 million copies of her stunning new album 1989 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

If you do the math, Taylor sold more than two copies of 1989 every second last week!

How did the superstar celebrate the news? By posting a video of her rapping along to Kendrick Lamar's "Backseat Freestyle," while hanging out in a car.

So far in 2014, only one album has sold more than a million copies: the soundtrack to the movie Frozen, which actually came out in 2013. No other album released in 2014 has sold one million copies, all year long.

Swift is the first act ever to have three albums sell a million copies in a week. In 2010, her Speak Now sold 1.047 million. Two years ago, Red debuted with 1.21 million sales, the last album to top the million mark in a week.
