Album Review: Fireworks - Gospel

I’m going to let you into a secret: pop-punk in 2011 isn’t doing it for me. Something that I should logically be enthused by (the revitalisation of my favourite teenage genre) has left me a little cold. So it was then, that when Fireworks’ new record 'Gospel' crossed my path, I approached this review with some trepidation. Quite aside from my own views, the band’s previous output is already hailed as classic by many and this, only their second full-length, has much to live up to.

No further dilly-dallying though, it’s an outstanding record. There’s a lyric in stand-out song ‘Summer’ that references classic 80s coming of age film Stand By Me: “...I wanna find dead bodies with my closest friends.” It seems to sum up everything that they stand for, everything that bands aim, but often try too hard to portray; camaraderie and making the best of shitty situations. Lyrically, the album is full of such knowing touches, always heartfelt and often nostalgic, but never cheesy.

Moving Mountains Comment on New Album

Moving Mountains have posted an open letter regarding their new album, 'Waves' which is released on May 10th through Triple Crown Records.

Moving Mountains posted:

"You may have heard that we will be releasing our second full length album, Waves, on May 10th. It's the band's first collective effort on a full record, and a huge milestone for us. We've spent the past 6 years traveling, writing, and evolving this band, and ourselves, into something far more then we had imagined back when we started in Nick's parents' garage in August, 2005. We've been blessed and fortunate enough to meet all the people we have, and share all the experiences with fans, friends, and musicians we respect and love along the way. Without everyones' support, we would not be here writing this.

Waves is an album that took us the better half of 2009 till now to make. Much like our older albums, we nestled up in a small basement, loaded our gear into it, and hit record. Luckily this time around, we've had the likes of some of our favorite producers help us reach our goals (Matt Goldman, and Mike Kalajian). This record bridges all the same sentiments as our previous releases - with where we are today. It's a record, that inevitably became more honest, and true to the events that took place in our lives, and how we - as everyone does - learned to grow from them. We hope this record, along with all our efforts, continue to inspire and help people learn more about themselves and the world around them.

We're looking forward to the rest of this year, and hope to see everyone who appreciates what we do while on tour in support of this album.

Thank you all,

MovMou"

Moving Mountains Sign to Triple Crown Records

As previously rumoured, Moving Mountains have signed to Triple Crown Records.

The band posted the following message:

"Hi everyone!

We know it's been a little quiet in the Mov Mou camp, but we're insanely excited to announce is that our new album will be coming out on Triple Crown Records. We've been fans of Triple Crown and their bands for a long time and feel very fortunate to be working with them.

Much like on Pneuma and Foreword, we're going to be self-producing and recording the new album. We're putting the finishing touches on the studio that we've been building in Greg & Frank's basement and hope to start recording in the next few weeks. Some of our fans might have caught our Polar Bear Club tour rehearsals on Ustream and we wanted to let everyone know that we're planning on live streaming the entire recording process as well as posting studio journals and pictures on Facebook (www.facebook.com/movingmountains). Take a second to "like" our page if you want to know when we'll be live streaming.

The new album is tentatively scheduled for an early 2011 release with loads of US and international touring to follow. We hope that you're all excited as we are. "

Moving Mountains Sign To Triple Crown?
