Fueled By Ramen To Release "Girls" Soundtrack; Features New Music From Tegan & Sara, fun.

Fueled By Ramen Records have announced the release of "Girls - Volume 1: Music From The HBO® Original Series," the musical companion to the acclaimed comedy series.

The album will be released on January 8th, to coincide with the second season of Girls, which is scheduled to premiere on HBO on January 13th.

The band released the following statement:

Twenty One Pilots Sign To Fueled By Ramen Records

According to a new interview, Twenty One Pilots have announced they have signed to Fueled By Ramen Records.

"Alive: How did you end up signing a record contract?

Joseph: Last time we played Columbus, we played at Newport. And we ended up selling that show out, which we didn’t anticipate. Turns out, when you sell out a venue like that, it gets to more than just people who are in Ohio. And people from the music industry got wind of that somehow.

Joseph: So we decided to go with Fueled By Ramen. Our partner is going to be them. We’ve been working with them for the past few months, just getting ready for that announcement on their end and on our end.

Dun: And the big thing, I think really one of the biggest factors in the decision is that they’re one of the labels that really allow a lot of creative control, that we’re allowed to maintain. Which is something that I’d like to reiterate just because that is one thing that people fear, that ideas or vision that we had might be stripped away just because of things that the label has said or done or discouraged. And so far that hasn’t been the case at all. There’s a great artistic connection between us and them.

Alive: I understand the day after the show you’re leaving to work on the album?

Joseph: Yes. Saturday’s the show, and then Sunday, April 29, we are getting on a plane and we’re going out to L.A. We’re working with a producer out there by the name of Greg Wells. And working on our first national release, I guess is what you would call it."

The Swellers Leave Fueled By Ramen Records; Release New Song

The Swellers have announced they have parted ways with Fueled By Ramen Records. The band will also be releasing a new 7" through SideOneDummy Records on May 29th.

"Recently, The Swellers decided that it was time to part ways with Fueled By Ramen. We’ve had a good run with them and have a lot of appreciation and respect for everyone at the label. While we wish the staff and their bands the best of luck, we’ve come to the conclusion that being part of a major label just isn’t the right fit for us right now. We’re ready to continue developing who we are as a band, and excited to give our fans the very best of us in whole new ways. We’re excited for this to be a bit of a return to form, while also being a whole new beginning.

On May 29th, we’re releasing a 7” of two songs recorded from the Good For Me sessions that weren’t on the album, but are some of our favorite songs we’ve ever written. They’re some of our fastest, most aggressive songs we’ve made to date. The 7” title came from the song “Vehicle City Blues,” which we wrote about the recent effects of a serial killer in Flint, MI. Our friends at SideOneDummy Records are releasing the 7” for us on limited blue, red, and green vinyl. We’re very proud of these songs and can’t wait for you to hear them.

However, we also want everyone to know that The Swellers are not slowing down by any means. Two days ago, we arrived in the UK to start a sold-out tour with Deaf Havana, return to Groezrock in Belgium (one of our favorite festivals), and then next month we tour the US with our friends in The Early November, The Wonder Years, and Young Statues. We’re planning on releasing an EP on our own later this year before signing with a new label for an album sometime in 2013.

A lot is changing in the way that artists are able to get their music out to people and we’re embracing it. This is going to be good."

Album Review: fun. - Some Nights

Passing down the pop aesthetic from The Format down to fun., Nate Ruess has only shown progression since the awe-inspiring "Dog Problems" which was laden with insanely catchy songs counteracted with lyrics which only described their bitterness towards the music industry which they felt shun them (listen to: "The Compromise"). When fun. came along, it truly felt like a supergroup was formed, featuring Nate Ruess alongside Jack Antonoff of Steel Train and Andrew Dost from Anathallo.

The track opens with a theatrical introduction aptly titled "Some Nights (Intro)," the hauntingly sparse piano featured in the song doesn't take anything away from Ruess' wide vocal range which hits new spaces, lyrically Ruess picks up on where he left off with "Aim & Ignite," the self deprecation featured in that album is topped with the repeated phrase, "Have you listened to me lately? I've been going crazy." It is with the final reprise of "Some Nights (Intro)" in this song where you truly know how powerful Ruess' delivery can be. Immediately following this is the song "Some Nights" which develops upon the introduction with Ruess' vocals being processed in a vocoder which creates a bigger anthemic sound followed by some insanely infectious backing vox.
