Feature: 2010 Preview

2009 was a ridiculously good year for music, which means 2010 has a lot to live up to. However there are a whole load of releases planned throughout the year. As we end one year and head into another, we thought we would take a look at just some of the releases for 2010.

My Chemical Romance
Things have been relatively quiet for the Newark, New Jersey 5-piece since finishing touring 'The Black Parade' with only a Bob Dylan cover ('Desolation Row') being only new material since then. 2010 will mark the return of MCR with their 4th album. No release date for the currently untitled album has been set yet.

Lostprophets
Lostprophets' 4th album was originally started in 2007 but after recording an albums worth matieral, the band decided to scrap it and start over. This eventually led to 'The Betrayed', which will be released in January on Visible Noise (UK)/Sony (US).

Cancer Bats
Cancer Bats' fierce hardcore punk sound will return in early 2010 with 'III: Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones'.

Alkaline Trio
After leaving their major label deal, the Illinois trio decided to form their own label; Heart & Skull, and joined with Epitaph Records in the US and Hassle Records in the UK, to release the bands 7th album, 'This Addiction'.

Crime In Stereo
Early 2010 sees Crime In Stereo making their return with the Bridge Nine-released 'I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone', that is set for a release date of February 23rd.

The Morning Of
With a worldwide deal with Tragic Hero/LAB Records/East West in place and production duties from Jim Wirt (No Doubt, Jacks Mannequin), The Morning Of are set to make a return in April with their second album.

MiMi Soya
2009 preoved to be a quiet year for Brighton's MiMi soya, with vocalist Hero leaving and being replaced by Jorja. The band are recording a new EP with Frankie Torpey (The Auteur) and is set for a May release on LAB Records.

Portia Conn
First included on our 'Spring/Summer 2009' compilaion, 17 year old Portia Conn will release her debut EP in the summer with a single, 'I Don't Care' set to be released on February 2nd on LAB/Tragic Hero.

Angels & Airwaves
With blink-182 deciding to get back together in early 2009 and the subsequent mammoth US tour that followed. Work on Angels and Airwaves 3rd full-length was put off by Tom Delongue and is now set to be released on Valentine's Day (February 14th). In addition to this, 'Love' will be released for free, along with the film of the same name.

Four Year Strong
After signing a major label deal with Universal Motown and the ridiculously good 90's cover album 'Explains It All' in 2009. March 9th will see Four Year Strong making their return with 'Enemy Of The World', the bands first original album in 3 years.

blink-182
Just one of many bands to re-unite in 2009, will continue their comeback in 2010 with a new record promised, along with summer dates throughout Europe expected to happen.

Manchester Orchestra
Although a new release is unlikely to take place. However the band do plan on working on new material. Despite this plenty of Manchester Orchestra-related releases are expected, with frontman Andy Hull planning a joint-release with Kevin Devine, as well as the third part of his "Right Away, Great Captain" trilogy. In addition to this, solo releases from guitarist Robert McDowell; under his 'Gobotron' name and keyboard player Chris Freeman are expected to be released Favorite Gentleman.

The Devil Wears Prada
Dayton, Ohio's The Devil Wears Prada will enter the studio in January to record their 4th album and is more than likely to be released before the end of the year.

Motion City Soundtrack
After a 3 year wait, Motion City Soundtrack make their return with their Columbia Records debut, 'My Dinosaur Life'. A record that sees blink-182's Mark Hoppus returning on production duties. Only 2 tracks have been released so far, one of which is called 'Disappear', which sees the band showing a slightly darker, more rockier sound.

Deftones
In 2008 the Deftones had finished work on 'Eros'. However unfortunatly the terrible news of bassist Chi Cheng being involved in a car accident, which left him in critical condition, meant the band abandoned the release of 'Eros' to a later date.

The remaining members decided to head back into studio, to record another album with Sergio Vega filling on bass and will be releasing in April 2010.

Bring Me The Horzion
Sheffield metalcore kings, Bring Me The Horizon will head into the studio in March to record their 3rd album with producer Fredrik Nordström. A release on Epitaph (US)/Visible Noise (UK) in the summer is aim. The band will also be heading out the 2010 Warped Tour.

You Me At Six
2009 was another good year for You Me At Six, with a headline slot at the Slam Dunk Festival, support slots on Paramore's sold-out UK arena tour and Alternative Press Magazine's Fall Ball US tour alongside The Academy Is, Set Your Goals and more and US record deal with Epitaph Records.

The band are quickly following up with 'Hold Me Down', which will be released on January 11th and sees Sean Smith (The Blackout) and Aled Philips (Kids In Glass Houses) being roped in on guest vocal duties. Lead singer Josh Franceschi promising a more mature record, than their debut.

Against Me!
Florida's Against Me! will make a return with 'White Crosses', an album that sees Hot Water Music's George Rebelo taking over on drums and Butch Vig as producer again. A release date has not been announced yet, but expect the album to be out by mid-2010.

The Dillinger Escape Plan
Mathcore powerhouse, The Dillinger Escape Plan decided to form their own label, Party Smasher Inc. for their fourth full-length release 'Option Paralysis' which will see a release on March 23rd.

Me Vs Hero
Blackpool pop-punk group, Me Vs Hero have been in the studio with Romesh Dodangoda recording their full-length. Along with a support slot with Breathe Carolina, we predict big things for Me Vs Hero in 2010.

Story Of The Year
After giving us a preview of new material with 'The Betrayal', 2010 will see the return of Story Of The Year with a new record; apparently called 'The Constant' and will be released through Epitaph in February. In addition to this the band will be supporting Enter Shikari in the UK, along with UK headline shows in February.

So Many Dynamos
So Many Dynamos' 'The Loud Wars' had its US release earlier this year but 2010 will see the record getting its UK release on Vagrant, along with a UK tour in February.

Now, Now Every Children
According to the band, work on a new record is said to begin in the summer, and a release before the end of the year is likely.

Vampire Weekend
The follow up to the critically acclaimed self-titled debut will get its released on January 11th. 'Contra' is expected to be more of the clever, intriguing indie that Vampire Weekend showed so well first time round.

We Are The Ocean
After signing with Hassle Records and releasing the 'Look Alive' EP that followed. The band go into 2010 with their debut full-length 'Cutting Our Teeth' expected to be released on January 25th. A record that was produced by Brian McTernan, and is promised to be more dense and varied then the bands previous efforts.

The Swellers
Alter The Press! favourites The Swellers are set to head over to Europe in the first half of the year. We're hoping the UK release of 'Ups and Downsizing' gets the attention it deserves.

Rufio
Another band recently reunited is Rufio, who will release a digital EP, 'The Loneliest' in January, with a full-length expected to be released in the spring.

Kyoto Drive
Birmingham pop-rock four-piece Kyoto Drive are set to make a broad statement with their new album 'This Is All We Ever Wanted' on January 26th. Definitely one to watch.

Norma Jean
After signing to Razor and Tie Records late last year, Norma Jean are expected to head into the studio in early 2010 and a new album is expected by the summer.

Out Of Sight
Out Of Sight and their label Scylla Records, have said that the bands new record, 'Where Do We Go From Here?' will finally get its release in 2010.

O'Brother
Although the band currently have no plans to release new material, we have been told that the band will be writing new material, along with a US tour support alongside Manchester Orchestra.

Bad Religion
2010 is set to be a busy year for the Punk Rock ledgends, as Epitaph have told us the band are planning a live record, along with the band celebrating 30 years together.

Sing It Loud
Sing It Loud have been busy in the studio recording their sophomore record, that will get its release on Epitaph in 2010.

The Get Up Kids
After making their live return in 2010, the Kansas 5-piece are set to independently release a series of EPs throughout the year.

Isles & Glaciers
The so called "supergroup" made up of members of Chiodos, Emarosa, Pierce The Veil and more are expected to release their debut EP in 2010 on Equal Vision.

Chiodos
Despite parting ways with Craig Owens towards the end of 2009. Equal Vision have told us a new album from Chiodos is set to be released in the coming year.

Of Mice & Men
In 2009 post-hardcore band Of Mice and Men gained attention for their cover of Lady Gaga's 'Pokerface'. February 23rd sees the debut self-titled album on Rise Records.

Pierce The Veil
Pierce The Veil will head into the studio with producer Mike Green (Paramore, The Matches), to record their 2nd album that is set to be released in the summer on Equal Vision.

Sky Eats Airplane
After recent line-up change, Sky Eats Airplane are planning a new album in 2010 and will have its release on Equal Vision.

Alesana
Alesana's 2nd Fearless Records release is set to hit the streets on January 25th. 2010 will also the band heading to the UK with A Skylit Drive in April.

The Maine
The Maine will be recording their 2nd album in January, and it is likely to see the light of day by the summer.

Good Charlotte
The Madden twins will release their 5th studio album 'Cardiology' in March 2010.

Artist vs Poet
After giving us a sneak preview with their 'Damn Rough Night' EP a few weeks back, Artist vs Poet will release a full-length on March 1st on Fearless Records called 'My Favorite Fix'.

The Word Alive
Phoenix, Arizona's The Word Alive are set to deliver a full-length record on Fearless Records in July.

Motioness In White
Fearless Records signees Motionless In White are set to release new material in August.

The Bled
After leaving Vagrant Records and jumping over to Rise Records. The Bled will make their return in 2010 with 'Heat Fetish'. A March release is expected.

Viva Sleep
Viva Sleep will release a new EP called 'The House Of Viva Sleep' in February on Walnut Tree Records. The release is said to be hand pressed and will have 120 different pieces of artwork, one for each copy.

Castevet
2010 sees popular UK indie label Big Scary Monsters Recordings making their first US releases. One of these being Castevet's 'The Echo And The Light', and will be released on February 23rd on 12" vinyl.

Glassjaw
You never know, it might happen.
