Album Review: Trail - To The Rest Of The World

After 9 months of fund raising, London five piece, Trail managed to get together £20,000 and had harboured interest oversees from renowned producer Matt Wallace. A trip to LA later and ‘To The Rest of The World’ is the result.

Starting off with the fairly bland ‘Prism’ this seems to be an album I’m not going to particularly enjoy reviewing. It’s a dour affair and thankfully from there on in, things improve by a fair amount, ‘Flare’ has a huge chorus and ‘Forever Young’ really shows off the bands song writing ability.

Frontman Charlie Afif has vocals reminiscent to those of Dave Grohl and they are complimented nicely in the ballad type ‘Worry Free’ and in ‘Fumes’ you could be forgiven to think you’re actually listening to the Foo Fighters, the similarities are uncanny. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, both tracks are really good and go well together.

What this band do incredibly well is a good old fashioned Indie anthem, influences from Editors can easily be seen in the eclectic ‘All Down’ which builds up nicely into a satisfying chorus/ending.

Unfortunately the album as a whole is let down by the boring ending song, the title track from the record ‘To The Rest Of The World’ is a track that has been slowed down and instead of going out on a bang, Trail have left this album hanging with a damp squib, a really disappointing end.

Trail are a band that will appeal to the Indie masses, this is by no means a great album, but it is nowhere near a terrible one either, it will satisfy without ever really offending, a pleasurable listen.

3/5
