Album Review: Create Avoid - Heart Remains

Metalcore group Create Avoid storm their way through 30 minutes of pounding drums and thrashing guitars. Tracks like 'Tyranny' and 'Gotham' is a good worthy start, with the latter showing off strong guitar work and the band don't over do it when it comes to the somewhat standard breakdown. Instead they quickly pick up the pace, as this album as a whole feels as its going at 100MPH.

From start to finish, the band are a solid unit and know how to play their instruments and clearly have a good understanding of the genre. However there arn't too many highlights, which leads to the suggestion that the band fall into an area of mediocrity. Whilst 'Unfamiliar Faces' and 'Rat Race' sound powerful, with growling vocals and gang shouts, which brings a positive spin on a genre that most of the time can be negative.

Other tracks worth taking note of are 'Finding Clarity' with the bands cry of "Our time is now!" and the closing track 'Heart Remains', which once again shows the bands good guitar work, as they manage to keep the tempo but with a hint of creativity.

On the whole Create Avoid won't win over fans who dislike the genre but as a metal/hardcore record, it's an all-round soild and the band has potential.

3/5
