Album Review: When Girls Kiss Girls - A Few Words Of Advice

With a name like When Girls Kiss Girls and describing yourself as "MoshPop", you can only think this is going to be either interesting, abysmal or both. 'A Few Words Of Advice' is pretty predictable from start to finish. Think A Day To Remember guitars with Attack Attack! "brutal" breakdowns.

Whilst 'Oh, Brutus' and 'It's Not Ironic, It's Coincidental' shows the ability to hold a melody, the bands blending of pop-punk and hardcore is unoriginal and for the most part, has been done better. Yes, the choruses are somewhat catchy and yes, the breakdowns are fierce and full of aggression, but the formula quickly comes tiresome.

Although title track ('A Few Words Of Advice' somehow is the EPs highlight, as the blend of harmonies is favourable with 'Leopards Are A Very Moral Creature' a close second.

On the whole When Girls Kiss Girls will quickly be pigeon holed into the stereotypical pop-punk meets hardcore bubble, one which is quickly becoming saturated with bands wanting to become the next Four Year Strong. Whilst as a genre it has its positives, as this EP shows but like the genre its predictable. When Girls Kiss Girls will definitely find new fans with this EP, although a bit of variation could be needed to take the next step in their career.
