Alter The Press! Presents: Tropics

Normally if a 4 piece band loses 3 members you'd safely say that it was game over, but not for Tropics. As the only original member remaining, guitarist and vocalist Jodie Cox decided to give everyone 3 huge reasons to check out his band if you hadn't already. These reasons are Oli Knowles, Lewis Reynolds and Paul Phillips - better known as 3/5's of legendary act Meet Me in St Louis. The new line up has come with a new sound but to put it into their own words 'It's practically a new band and should really warrant a new name but that's too much effort', case closed. Old songs have been reworked and new songs written, creating a new and exciting chapter for the band.

For Fans Of: Meet Me in St Louis, old Tropics, These Arms Are Snakes.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Tropics: We are some of the best looking motherfuckers of all time.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Tropics: Angela Lansbury came to me in a dream and said "I think I've found 3 guys who are almost as stupid as you. They like riffs and all that noisy shit you're into. Get on it and don't fuck it up like you always do." She then turned round to Tom Hanks and explained how she solved the case and then they celebrated by feasting on the organs of small children.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
Tropics: Our current tolerance for one another.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Tropics: We're opening for Ozzy on Halloween in Kingston at The Peel which should be a laugh. We're also going to record an album and only release it on 8-Track and VHS. It will probably be amazing too....in reality, we're just finishing up our new set of songs and trying/looking to play shows wherever and whenever we can. Got some shows lining up with friend Holy State in October which should be fun and just looking around as I say. Currently working on writing an albums worth of material to record and hopefully release sometime early next year. If you're reading this, like the idea of putting a record out and have more money than sense but like our stuff, give us a call.
