For Fans Of: The Academy Is... and Motion City Soundtrack

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
The Motel Life: Well, hopefully they enjoy the sounds we make. We are a band of passion; music drives us. We don’t have anything that we care about more than the music we write and the shows we play. We try to incorporate all our different taste in music into our sounds and we come out with something that has a little something for everyone.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
TML: We began in 2007, but we didn’t have our line-up that we have now until the beginning of 2010. We kind of went through some growing pains with our first EP We All Left Something Behind. We just released our most recent album, Retreat all on our own and are trying to support that album with shows and other things. Our story doesn’t really change much over the years; we are a small band from a small town that is occasionally mistaken for a Canadian providence and we try to play as many shows as we possibly could. We are five guys who care passionately about music and over the years developed a really good chemistry with each other.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
TML: Defiantly the ability to tour is a highlight in itself for us. We love being on the road. Although we are not able to afford being on the road as much as we would like, every time we go north or out east we always have a great time. Our single highlight from our trips out would have to be our first time Seattle. The city and the people that populate it really showed us some hospitality that we would never forget.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
TML: Currently we are writing and playing locally. For the summer we are really working hard to playing in cities that we have never played or at least haven’t played in long time. Although we writing some new material we are not planning to release it until we have the right funding. Our last album 'Retreat' which we released ourselves was a huge project for us and it’s still very new so we are still planning to promote that album as much as we can.

'Retreat' by The Motel Life is available through Bandcamp and is available to Alter The Press! readers for $5 when they use the promo code: “alterthepress”.
