ATP! Album Review: Bayside - Covers - Vol. 1 EP

New York natives, Bayside, have recently joined the list of self-releasing musicians that have made waves on the scene today. The band’s debut release on their own label, Gumshoe Records, is a collection of cover songs that is suitably titled, "Covers - Vol. 1", which not-so-subtlely implies that there will be one or two or (hopefully) five more sequels to this record in the future. Hopefully nobody assumed that Bayside were going to have overplayed radio tunes on this release; "Covers - Vol. 1" is absolutely nothing like what you may have seen done in the past. Bayside carefully chose classic rock and pop jams that perfectly compliment their own unique and renowned sound, while simultaneously putting their signature flair on each of the five tracks without butchering the original beats.

Bayside Announce Covers EP

Bayside have announced they will release a new EP titled "Covers - Volume 1" via their own label Gumshoe Records on October 23rd.

The release will see the band covering a variety of artists including Van Morrison, The Ronettes, Del Shannon, Elvis Costello and Billy Joel.

Bayside will launch special album bundles via their website www.baysidebayside.com on October 8th.

Bayside No Longer With Wind-Up Records

Bayside have confirmed in a new interview they are no longer signed to Wind-Up Records and are currently unsigned. Check out an excerpt from the feature below.

"KC: Killing Time presented an interesting situation for you guys. You changed labels, went from Victory to Wind-Up. Wind-Up is a pretty big label, and there’s always the worry that the little band goes to a big label and gets chewed up. How has the situation with Wind-Up been for you guys?
AR: It was cool, we’re not there any more, it was one-time thing. We’re actually not on any label right now, which is cool. It’s exciting, free agency. It was totally different ballgame, you know, being on Victory. Victory was great, and they worked really hard to help get our band where it is. We definitely would never have gotten to where we are now if it wasn’t for them. It’s a great label. When it comes to Victory, if you’re having a problem with something, or you have an idea you want to see happen, you call the owner on his cell phone, and then you guys talk about it. If he likes the idea, he gets excited, and he’s really passionate about the bands, and he knows all the lyrics to every record he’s ever put out. You don’t get that at Wind-Up, or a major label. But at the same time, you also can’t just call Victory and say, “We want Gil Norton to produce our record, it’s going to cost $150 grand.” That’s what you get at Wind-Up."

Anthony Raneri (Bayside) Announces Solo EP Vinyl Release

Anthony Raneri of Bayside will release his debut solo EP, "New Cathedrals" on vinyl on June 19 through Paper + Plastick Records.

This one-of-a-kind vinyl has powdered coffee pressed into the wax of the EP. The vinyl will smell (but not taste) like coffee, and the record will still be 100% playable.

Anthony Raneri To Miss Few Where's My Band? Tour Dates Due To Infection

Due to having an infection in his finger, which has now spread to his hand, Anthony Raneri (of Bayside) has been forced to miss a few dates of the current Where's My Band? tour.

Raneri made the following statement:

"I've spent the last 24 hours in the hospital in Orange County. I had an infection in my finger that spread through my hand. It's totally stiff and painful. Really sorry to the fans that came out to SLO tonight to see me. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to San Francisco tomorrow either. Hoping to at least get up to Portland and Seattle to sing a few songs with my awesome tour mates playing guitar for me. Stay tuned."

Album Review: Anthony Raneri - New Cathedrals EP

In a sweet aside from Queens punk rockers Bayside, Anthony Raneri’s ‘New Cathedrals’ is a truly eloquently written EP with a light flavour that’s hard not to enjoy; a sense that’s inherited to your ears as first track ‘Sandra Partial’ explodes into a joyful romp of acoustic guitar and pop vocal melody, a song that remains simple yet effective for the entirety of its run time.

And it’s hard to deny the mixture of electric guitar and piano in ‘Charleston’ is effective, its many musical layers contributing to an extremely interesting array of soundscapes in a song that verges on experimental and jazzy but retains the flavors of punk and to a smaller extent ska, to a delightful degree, culminating in a powerful bridge that speaks to the power all solo projects shout exert to demonstrate the talent and the creativity of the individual.
