New Alkaline Trio Album Debuts At No. 11

Alkaline Trio's new album, 'This Addiction' debuted at Number 11 in the US charts, shifting over 25K copies.

Album Review: Alkaline Trio - This Addiction

After a couple of disappointing releases, Alkaline Trio are back to their best. 'This Addicition' is a vast return to form and a reminder of why I personally fell in love with this band in the first place. The title track sees the band returning to their origins; bass-driven fast-paced songs that take no shit with subtle pop-punk hooks. As always Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano share vocal duties, although Skiba more so on this effort.

Nevertheless Andriano is on form, especially on 'Dine, Dine My Darling' (despite the awful play on words), which keeps up the albums momentum. Whilst tracks like 'Dead on the Floor', 'Draculina' and 'The American Scream' is vintage Trio and will please old fans (including me). Those wanting a bit more variation will be disappointed.

New Alkaline Trio Album Title

Alkaline Trio's new album will be called 'This Addiction'.

When speaking to Rock Sound, Matt Skiba said:

"It is the first song on the record and the title of our new album. The song takes heroin addiction as a metaphor for love. The whole record is really personal, all three of us have been through quite a bit since our last album [2008's 'Agony & Irony'] and it is all expressed through this, all the songs are about the relationships we've been in and so the record has a constant theme."

An early 2010 release on Epitaph/Heart & Skull Records with UK dates to follow.
