ATP! Album Review: Kesha - Rainbow

After the past years of hardship, it’s awesome to see Kesha come roaring back with an amazing album, one that lets you see more of who she is behind the party swagger that defined her previous music. Rainbow is a force to be reckoned with, an album filled with anthems, hymns, and, yes, a song about Godzilla. Kesha is still out- there and fabulous, but she’s showing a new side to herself, too. And what a side it is.

First single, “Praying,” provided a beautiful introduction to this, and is still one of the best and most emotional songs on the album. I still can’t listen to it without getting tears in my eyes. “Finding You” and “Learn To Let Go” keep the emotions high, while “Woman” and “Hymn” are powerful anthems ready to be turned into concert sing- alongs. “Woman” also proves that every song is catchier with an epic horns section.

Kesha Files Lawsuit Against Producer Dr. Luke for Alleged Sexual and Physical Assault

Kesha has filed a lawsuit against her longtime producer Dr. Luke, claiming he sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused her since she was 18 years old.

In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the singer claims Dr. Luke once made her snort a substance before she got on a plane with him and then he forced himself on her during the flight while she was drugged. She also claims he once gave her what he called “sober pills” and then she woke up in his bed the next morning with no memory of how she got there.

Kesha Addresses Rumors, Insecurities and Pressure in the Music Industry

Kesha has written an essay for Elle UK discussing her two-month stint in rehab from earlier this year, confronting her own insecurities and pressure she faces in the music industry.

"Sure, I've written songs about partying, but my dirty little secret is that I'm actually incredibly responsible," she writes when opening up about her trip to the rehab. "I take my music and career very seriously, and certainly didn't land in this situation from partying. But I was cut off from the outside world and I imagined people making up stories at a time when what I really needed was support."

Kesha goes on to describe her passion for music that spawned from feeling like an outsider through her early years, coping with bullying at school by dedicating herself to her art until singing a record contract at 18. But even though she found her unique style rewarded, the entertainment business was not a salvation.

"The music industry has set unrealistic expectations for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming overly critical of my own body because of that," she writes. "I felt like people were always lurking, trying to take pictures of me with the intention of putting them up opine or printing them in magazines and making me look terrible."

She stood up for herself through her music, writing anthems for empowerment like "We R Who We R," "Warrior" and "Love Into The Light," but even those began to feel like lies.

"I felt like a liar, telling people to love themselves as they are, while I was being hateful to myself and really hurting my body. I wanted to control things that weren't in my power, but I was controlling the wrong things. I convinced myself that being sick, being skinny was part of my job. It felt safer somehow."

Eventually, she asked her mom for help and admitted herself to rehab. The growth process was slow at first but it worked and she was able to focus on her music without obsessing over how she looks.

"I knew I was ready to leave when I'd gained enough confidence to get on a plane knowing there would be paparazzi at the airport at the other end. I was right - they were there. But this time, when I saw the pictures, I felt OK."

Kesha Is Out Of Rehab and Drops Dollar Sign From Name?

Ke$ha checked out of the rehab earlier this week and sources close to the singer are reporting she wants a fresh start after her 60 days in rehab for an eating disorder, and the moniker she uses in her name reminds her of her "old self."

Kesha left the facility following a two-month stint for the eating disorders anorexia and bulimia.

"Blanco is also lending that stripped aesthetic to longtime collaborator Ke$ha for her anticipated new album, due out later this year. Recently, Ke$ha and Blanco hit the studio with producers Dr. Luke and Cirkut to work on a song that he describes as “old hippie rock,” co-written with fun. lead singer Nate Ruess. “It’s stomps and claps, and the chorus doesn’t really have any drums in it, basically. The feeling is so good,” says Blanco in his surfer drawl. “And then the verse just pops in, and it’s very unexpected and it pops into electronic. So it’s rock, it’s big electronic breaks and drums."
