ATP! Lists: 10 Must-See Acts at Vans Warped Tour 2014

Nick Santino (Playing: All dates)Words: Victoria Mier
Though Nick Santino is probably best known for his sweet voice on tracks like “Baby Blue Eyes” from his former position as A Rocket To The Moon’s lead singer, his new music is just as great, if a little different. He’ll be playing on Warped Tour’s Acoustic Basement, and if you haven’t listened to his latest EP, The Ones You Meet Along The Way, now’s the time to grab a copy to make sure you can sing along to his set on Warped. Santino has taken a folksy, country outlook on pop/rock, which has really given the young musician a chance to show off his skills as a singer/songwriter. Since his tunes are a little mellower than the other bands you might be seeing on Warped, Santino’s well-crafted ballads will serve as some downtime between all your moshing and crowd surfing. That said, don’t forget he toured the world with A Rocket To The Moon and peaked at #4 on iTunes’ singer/songwriter charts with The Ones You Meet Along The Way, so it’s safe to say Santino will certainly put on a show. Make sure you stop by Warped Tour’s Acoustic Basement to see him in action!
ATP! 2014: Albums Of The Year

2014 has been an especially good year for music. From newcomers to long-established artists, independent releases to massive commercial hits, the last twelve months has been a relentless torrent of incredible albums. It hasn’t been easy trying to pick our favorites, which means the ones that made it are extra special.
So, without further ado, here are our top ten albums of 2014:
ATP! Album Review: Against The Current - Gravity EP
There’s a new band that should be on your radar, a band ready to break down the
barriers between pop and rock music, and they’re about to do so with a new EP called
Gravity. They’re called Against The Current, and they’re an infectious pop-rock trio
about to make some waves.Their impressive EP opens with its title track and lead single, “Gravity,” which will have you clapping along from the outset (literally, it begins with hand claps). Chrissy Costanza’s vocals are delicate and twee as they take you through the first verse. Don’t for a second think this is some sort of soft pop record though, as the chorus really explodes, transforming the track into a punchy anthem, full of energy and life.

ATP! Essential Listening: Years & Years
In January 2014, London electro-pop trio Years & Years released their debut single
“Real” and started gaining hype across the internet. After this publicity, they signed
to Polydor Records and released further singles “Take Shelter” and “Desire.” Twelve
months later, in January 2015, the band have just won the BBC Sound of 2015, been
nominated for the BRITS Critics Choice Award and have topped every single ‘Tops
for 2015’ list going. They sold out their entire debut UK headline tour months before
it even starts and tickets for their 2000 capacity London show in June sold out in ten
minutes. Not bad for a band who’ve yet to release an album. Years & Years formed after beat makers Michael Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen heard vocalist Olly Alexander singing in the shower and agreed to let him join their band. Little did they know that was the best decision they would ever make, as within months they became the buzz on every music lovers lips. Last year saw them tour with Sam Smith, Clean Bandit and MØ – plus Ellie Goulding has declared herself a massive fan. Still not persuaded?
ATP! Essential Listening: Saint Raymond
With 2015 just around the corner, there are various names on everyone’s lips as to
who is going to make it big in the music world – one of those being indie-pop singer-
songwriter Saint Raymond. Hailing from the UK, Saint Raymond’s positive, upbeat anthems have seen praise from critics everywhere and gained him the hottest tour support slots with acts that include Haim and a little well-known guy named Ed Sheeran.
ATP! Album Review: Fall Out Boy - Save Rock And Roll
It’s probably been one of the hottest comebacks of the year so far. They managed to sell out a show at The Roxy in -2 minutes, (because they have the skills to defy real time) and Patrick Stump has blossomed into a grade A babe. The return of Fall Out Boy has boosted the morale of many through this ongoing winter and there’s nothing like a brand spanking new album to please music lovers everywhere. But will it really save rock and roll?Save Rock And Roll starts with ‘The Phoenix,’ the video for which was recently released and includes Patrick losing his hand and the whole band being abducted in a “WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?!?” type storyline. It’s a punchy opener and sets the album up for a whole lot of rage filled guitar anthems.
ATP! Album Review: A Day To Remember – Common Courtesy
Having spent months battling a court case with their label Victory Records, it’s been a nail-biting few weeks for A Day To Remember, who up until recently had no idea if they’d even be able to release their new album Common Courtesy. Thankfully the music gods (and a judge) have allowed them to lay down their well-constructed mess of pop-punk and hardcore to be unleashed to its fans. But is it worth all the stress and hard work?Common Courtesy opens in a blistering A Day To Remember fashion, with the punchy guitar rhythms of ‘City of Ocala’ and a “FUCK YEAH” to throw you right into the whirlpool of pop-mosh goodness. Already from the outset it’s proven that A Day To Remember have returned with a massive bunch of solid anthems squeezed into their fifth record.
ATP Album Review: 5 Seconds Of Summer – S/T
5 Seconds Of Summer. Are they Pop? Are they Rock? Who knows? Who really cares? What we really care about is that their debut, self-titled album has finally dropped. After the incredible amount of hype built around the band courtesy of their two huge singles, "She Looks So Perfect" and "Don’t Stop" the excitement for the band’s debut has reached fever level, but does it live up to the hype? The album opens in a tremendous fashion, launching into the single that made them the well-established band that they are now, "She Looks So Perfect" is still one of the strongest pop songs to come out of the past six months and "Don’t Stop" - it’s follower, has proved that 5 Seconds Of Summer are going to be more than a one-hit-wonder.
ATP! 2013: Albums Of The Year

2013 has been an especially good year for music. From newcomers to long-established artists, independent releases to massive commercial hits, the last twelve months has been a relentless torrent of incredible albums. It hasn’t been easy trying to pick our favorites, which means the ones that made it are extra special.
So, without further ado, here are our top ten albums of 2013:
ATP! Album Review: Demi Lovato - Demi
Demi Lovato first flew into the spotlight when she was picked up by the magical hands of Disney along with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron. Fast forward a few years and she is now focusing solely on her music career attacking the music industry with her fourth studio album, which has all the makings for a perfect pop record.Demi opens with the first single released from the album, ‘Heart Attack,’ telling tales of the woe’s of falling in love, mixing it with acoustic guitar melodies and a chorus that allows Demi to belt out the notes, impressing us with the power in her voice. The following tracks, ‘Made In The USA’ and ‘Without The Love’ are nothing to rant and rave about, they do their part in filling the album with easy-on-the-ear songs, but don’t do much to stop you from hovering over the skip button.
ATP! Interview: 5 Seconds Of Summer
Before we go any further, don’t automatically dismiss 5 Seconds Of Summer as just another boyband making pop music. Actually, let’s just eradicate the word ‘boyband,’ because that is something they are not. 5 Seconds Of Summer are four teenagers from the sunny shores of Australia that are fulfilling their childhood dreams of making music, music that fuses the best bits of pop and rock to create the upbeat melodies that the quartet so easily deliver. Alter The Press hopped over to London recently to catch up with the boys at a ping-pong bar. No, seriously. With the release of last years EP Somewhere New and having recently dropped the video for their forthcoming single "She Looks So Perfect" obviously we wanted to get the gossip on what we can expect from the debut album.

ATP! Lists: 10 Must-Hear Acts at Riot Fest 2013

Fall Out Boy (Playing: September 13th)Words by: Gina Catalano
Chicago has been the talk of the town this year with its second Stanley Cup victory in three years, its backdrop for the fourth Transformers movie, and its biggest headlining festival and carnival the city has seen. To top that off, hometown heroes Fall Out Boy will be back in the area for Riot Fest during a day off from their fall arena tour. While they won’t have opening acts Panic! At The Disco and twentyonepilots with them, the crowd should expect nothing less than pure entertainment from the punk-rock quartet.
After a four-year hiatus, the band made an unforgettable comeback this past February by torching their previous albums at the location where Comiskey Park once stood and announcing they were back with their new album, Save Rock and Roll. In the six months since, the band has showed the world that while they have grown as artists and bandmates, they are still the same band whose lyrics and melodies help heal the soul and set the mind to believe that anything is possible. Believers never die, after all. Now, while the man behind the Riot Fest Twitter account begs for a Jesse and the Rippers performance, can we start a petition to get Elton John on stage during Fall Out Boy’s set? Anyone? Bueller?

Glassjaw (Playing: Sunday, May 19th)Words by Emma Garland
I don’t think we’re ever gonna get this third full-length album but whatever, Glassjaw already have enough solid material to play back-to-back for an entire afternoon and you wouldn’t get bored once. Also on that note, they always seem to throw a curveball into their setlists whether it’s the lesser-performed 'Ry Ry’s Song' or a cover of 'Woman' by 108, so there’s always a curious sense of unpredictability about their live performances.
