Feature: Kid Liberty - 'Fight With Your Fists' Track by Track

This week Texas group Kid Liberty release their new album, 'Fight With Your Fists' on Bullet Tooth Records. With comparisons to A Day To Remember and Set Your Goals, the five-piece brilliantly mix pounding, heavy hardcore with catchy pop-punk rhythms.

Vocalist Trey Sexton briefly spoke to ATP to give us a track by track run down of 'Fight With Your Fists'.

THE WINDS OF WAR
This is just a short intro track to we wanted to kind of set the theme for the record with a chant of "This town cannot take us alive!". We come from an area that doesn't exactly "get" what were doing with our lives, and alot of this record is a expression of how we feel about that.

I'M RIGHT HERE
This song flows right out of the intro with the exact same meaning. It's about people that go out of their way to disrespect or talk down on us. We know that were not going to please everyone and we know that. It honestly just fuels us more... Just as the chorus says "Go on and live your life, and I'll live mine the same.. with or with your worthless opinion."

KEEP ON PUSHIN'
I wrote this song about all the things we've encountered through the years and the friends we've made along the way. Tour is not always this glamorous thing that people assume, but if your heart is there you wouldn't trade it for the world. We had our good friend, Matt Lanners from The Greenery, do guest vocals on this song. It made too much sense.. those guys have been a big part of alot of the things this song talks about, and we never would have met if it weren't for music.

TELEPHONE TOUGHGUY
This one's about that dude that I'm sure everyone's had to deal with or hear about at some point. That dude that talks so much shit on the phone, myspace, and facebook, but isn't so tough in person. You have to eventually come to the realization that even sweating it is such a waste of your time and happiness. Knuckle up, shut up, or just forget about it.

FIGHT WITH YOUR FISTS
Being the title track, this follows the same idea as the title of the record. "Fight With Your Fists" simply means that if your going to do ANYTHING, do it whole-heartedly and believe in it no matter what's cool, not cool, accepted, or rejected.

COOLGUY DELUXE!
I wrote this song a couple of years ago and it's very simple. Every scene has that "guy" that feels like he's God's gift to music or the scene, but in reality it gets them no where. People eventually see straight through them.

THE NEW RECIPE
This is just a short interlude to kind of acts a a break. Ben wrote the guitar and the horn part. He actually played this spanish style of guitar before he got into playing in punk bands. We named it "The New Recipe" simply because we were eating a ton of Domino's in the studio and our producer said we wouldn't do it.

THE SITUATION
This a very all encompassing song simply about decisions that a person has to make in life. There are so many decisions we make in life, and alot of those decisions we make, we one day look back and decide to go back to the other path... realizing that sometimes things are worth it.

I'M NOT A PERSON ANYMORE.. I'M A TURTLE.
Ben (Wesson - guitarist) and I collectively wrote this song about some past members of our band. I know thats kind of straight to the point, but this life just isn't for everybody... and that's all its about. Were still great friends with the dudes... it just seems sometimes that its better to be friends than band mates.

12 MORE DAYS
This song is basically about having a girl back home that is solid gold. Any musician could easily back me in saying that it is hard to maintain a relationship while on the road constantly, and it's a blessing to find that girl. Case closed.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
Who's had a shitty break up and heard the words, "Can we still be friends?" I'll refrain from mentioning names, but get real. Don't cheat and expect someone to like you... EVER!

THIS IS A STICKUP!
We wrote this one a while ago. It basically explains living in a small town where your pressured to get married, have kids, and work a 9 to 5. We haven't "made it" I wouldn't say, but we've seen a lot of places and met tons of people that we could have never met without a dream. We're happy and still ambitious to take this further. We also wanted to close the record on the same them we opened it with.

'Fight With Your Fists' by Kid Liberty is available now on through Bullet Tooth.
