Alter The Press! Presents: Dorena

With a blend of epic soundscapes and blissfully structured numbers, Sweden's Dorena have carefully expanded their post-rock style to create a mesmerizing record in 'About Everything And More'. Tracks like 'We'll Never Meet This Young Again' add an element of pop, whilst 'From The Window Of My Room' is a lively, power-chord driven and throughout the band subtly use electronic elements.

In a genre that is becoming somewhat stale, Dorena add a refreshing touch to post-rock, as their dynamic, ambitious approach is well thought-out and is pulled off brilliantly.

For Fans Of: Sigur Ros, Lymbyc Systym, The Postal Service, This Will Destroy You, Envy, Helios, Holy Fuck, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, Stars of the Lid.

Questions answered by Kim Ruiz (guitar, vocals.)

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Dorena: We are a young, hardworking band that is not writing songs that people expect us to, just to fit into a certain sound or genre. We simply write the best songs we possibly can at the moment, and the sound has just come naturally. We are an exciting and captivating listen, and to find out what we will bring next is even more exciting. Our music is full of surprises. We are making music in a post-rock, pop, electronica style, so if you like any of those genres you should definitely check us out.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?

Dorena: Basically it’s a bunch of good friends messing around and playing music together, before finally deciding to take things a little more seriously. We had played music together in different bands, punkrock, screamo, ska and more, before settling with post-rock in 2007. We were 18 years old when starting out Dorena, and have evolved a lot since then. We are lucky enough not only to be able to play in a band and tour and make records, but also to be doing it together with your best friends.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?

Dorena: There are a lot of highlights, but one of them is definitely getting signed to Deep Elm Records, and seeing that people actually appreciate what we are doing. The same goes with a show we had in Prague about a year ago. We were all sick and feverish but the show was just incredibly fun. People were actually there just for us, and that was a nice feeling.
That wasn’t a single highlight. Sorry! I’m really bad with math and stuff.

ATP: What are your plans for the next 12 months?
Dorena: We are going on a European tour between October 29 and November 14. That will occupy us for a while, since we will be rehearsing and fixing all the things that need to be taken care of before leaving .
After the tour we will continue to promote our new album, and start working on new songs. We will hopefully be going on tour to the UK in February, so we’ll have some new songs ready by then.
Between touring and writing songs we will be playing some shows back home, so that should be fun also.

'About Everything And More' by Dorena is available now on Deep Elm Records.
