Alter The Press! Presents: Big Chocolate

Having started off playing in death metal band Disfiguring the Goddess, Cameron Argon's approach to making music changed once he brought a Mac computer. Argon's interest towards producing music, would eventually lead him to remixing tracks by the likes of Suicide Silence, IWrestledABearOnce and Asking Alexandria under the name of Big Chocolate.

With a mix of electronica, dub step and a hint of metal, Big Chocolate is gradually making a name for himself in the rock-orientated scene. He spent the summer on Warped Tour and will be heading out on the road with Dance Gavin Dance in the new year. In addition Argon has formed a dub step-meets-death metal project with Suicide Silence's Mitch Lucker, called Commissioner.

Overall Big Chocolate's direction is both strange yet interesting, as his sound is somewhat traditionally alien in the rock work and some may think the mix of dub step and rock would not mix. Nevertheless his brave, challenging approach proves to admirable and with both dub step and metal becoming popular genres again, anything is possible.

For Fans Of: Suicide Silence, Shay Carl, The Bloody Beetroots and Skrillex.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Big Chocolate: What’s NOT to check out. I have a wide variety of sounds and styles ranging from Metal to Drum and Bass to Dubstep. I also keep up a daily video blog on Youtube taking viewers and fans around with me through my life and all my experiences whether it be in the studio, on tour, or just hanging out with friends and family. There’s always something new to learn or to hear from me for people interested.

ATP: What's the story behind this project?
BC: I started getting really into playing music when I was 15. At the time I was living in a small town in Nevada and there wasn’t a lot to do for kids. Playing guitar and drums in local bands was pretty much all I was doing. I got really into "making" music after I saved up and got my first Mac and Audio interface at 16. After that, I became really absorbed into producing and writing music of all styles on my computer. I gained popularity on Youtube as a death metal vocalist in high school. I got some pretty cool opportunities to play all over the world with various bands, but it wasn’t until I was living in Huntington Beach in early 2010 were I got the offer to remix Suicide Silence for one of their singles.

After doing that remix, I started a project with their vocalist, Mitch Lucker, called Commissioner, creating a Electronic/Metal hybrid sound. Then I started to get more into the idea of focusing on Electronic Dance Music (EDM). I like the idea of producing from my bedroom and playing live with no need for other members. Since then, I’ve almost been producing many types of EDM non stop.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
BC: Hard to tell, every day is starting to outshine the last day. The best has yet to come seems to be my mantra of late.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
BC: I’ve been working on a lot of remixes that will get released soon along with a great deal of original work that I plan on releasing in 2011. I have a lot of touring plans for 2011. One tour has been announced so far. I’ll be on Dance Gavin Dance’s headliner (US tour) in March.
