Alter The Press! Presents: Flares

Essex trio Flares are a through and through rock band, with tight and fierce tracks like 'Threats & Fables' from their forthcoming 'Modern Accolade' EP showcasing a band with potential and ambition.

Although the band have been together for just 5 months, it is evident enough that the band are heading in the right direction, and with a sound that is accessible and is similar to the likes of The Subways and Feeder.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Flares: We feel we have something to show and prove. It's easy just to say 'yeah we're really good and original'. We provide big riffs & pounding drums for a no nonsence sound, Nothing but soul and passion is in our music and live performance. We want to combine the art of making melodic, catchy and simple tunes that still stand out to the listener! People should check us out for something fresh, to the point and loud, we even use a megaphone!

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Flares: Joe (Guitars, Vocals) & Scott (Drums) have been friends and jamming in bands for years, Scott then met Danny (Bass, Vocals) on a college course back in 2009 and the three of us got together back in August 2010, it took a while for it to get on the ground with a couple of different name changes and member changes, but after one practice of the final lineup we knew it would work. We spent most of the summer, 2010 in intense rehearsals writting and practicing, a love of all things loud brought our seperate music tastes together to provide our sound.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
Flares: Only being a band for 5 months it's hard to pick something. As it stands getting in the studio recording our debut EP 'Modern Accolade' has been a fantastic highlight, getting stuck in the rehearsal room from 48 hours due to snow was also a very fun experience.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Flares: For the next 12 months we will be doing lot's of promo & radio, gigging and touring LOADS, not only in our hometown of Colchester but all around the UK and also we will be filming a couple of music videos for 2 singles we are releasing this year. Our EP is also due for release in Feruary and towards the later part of the year we will start recording for our debut album that we hope will be out in 2012, we're not slowing down anytine soon.

'Modern Accolade' by Flares is released on February 7th.
