Alter The Press! Presents: Primitai

If rock is dead as some say it is, I have feeling Primitai may have something to say about it. Influenced and inspired by classic bands such as Iron Maiden and Metallica, the five-piece bring with them a mix of 80's-inspired metal blended with shredding guitars, that has resulted in plenty of praise from numerous publication and sites.

Whilst the bands biggest achievement took place in 2009, where the won that year's Surface Unsigned Battle of the Band contest at London's 02 Arena. Since winning Surface Unsigned, the band have gone on to play alongside bands such as Firewind, White Wizzard and Breed 77. The band ended 2010 on a high with the release of their latest record, 'The Line Of Fire'.

For Fans Of: Iron Maiden, Metaliica, Anthrax and Megadeth.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Primitai: If you love heavy metal of the old school variety but from a fresh perspective: our music is high energy fuelled heavy metal thunder, filled with duelling guitar solos, bombastic drumming, pummelling bass lines and melodic vocals with sing-along choruses!

As far as our live shows go, we pride ourselves on putting on a show like no other. I make it my duty to ensure that every single member of the audience is having a good time. Anyone who has seen us knows that we go all out at our shows where I actively engage with the audience to get them to sing-along if we’re playing to an unfamiliar crowd. Sometimes the most rewarding gigs are where you play to crowds that have never heard of you and after they come up after and tell you how much they enjoyed the show. This can be as rewarding as playing to the hardcore fans who sing and scream along with every line! Basically we just want everyone in that room to leave with a big smile on their face.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Primitai: The band’s first album ‘Through the Gates of Hell’ was released in 2008. The current line-up then took shape about 18 months ago. Following this we quickly entered the UK’s premier BOTB competition, Surface Unsigned, with 20,000 other hopeful bands, winning every consecutive round and were eventually crowned winners at the final at London’s O2 Arena.

Since winning Surface, we invested the winnings into a new album, ‘The Line Of Fire’ which was released last October. We’ve been gigging all over the UK and played with the likes of Reckless Love, Jettblack, Death Angel, Sonic Syndicate, White Wizzard and many more. We completed our first full UK tour in October and November supporting LA metalheads White Wizzard.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
Primitai: Supporting LA band White Wizzard on their tour of the UK & Ireland, but also winning the UK’s premier BOTB competition, Surface Unsigned and playing at London’s O2!

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Primitai: The plan for 2011 is to get back on the road as much as possible. For starters we’ve got 2 fantastic gigs booked for January in London & Southampton supporting Firewind & Breed 77 and Neil Buchanan’s band (of Art Attack fame) Marseille respectively. All while gearing up for a new record ready for a summer release.
