With their final EP in the 'This is Our Way Out' Trilogy, Brighton indie/math-rock quintet Goodluck Jonathan pull out the things that made the first two EPs brilliant and develop upon them even further. When I first reviewed the band late last year when the second EP came out, I compared the band to The Kooks, The Maccabees and At The Drive in. With this EP, they easily managed to differentiate the sound they only released a couple of months ago and shrug off those comparrisons.'Mad Licks' constantly switches between a sombre vocal line accompanied by a Minus The Bear infused guitar, counteracted with a fast paced, hard hitting B section. 'Mad Licks' really showcases the vocal range of the band as a whole and how easy it is for them to switch from one genre to the other.

Album Review: Goodluck Jonathan - This Is Our Way Out (EP2)
Aptly and awkwardly named after the current president of Nigeria or just wishing good tidings upon someone called Jonathan. Either way, Goodluck Jonathan's strange name reflects into their strange blend of indie and post rock. Incorporating the elements of indie bands such as The Kooks, The Maccabees and Foals whilst blending it alongside an At the Drive In and Minus the Bear influence.'Fatman' begins with a pounding drum beat followed by a muffled bluesy riff before transitioning into some supercharged adrenaline pumping chorus. The bridge shows both guitarists working over the top of one riff, one stabbing chords, the other playing the main riff before coming together to create a beefy sound in the chorus.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Goodluck Jonathan: We've spent a lot of time crafting these recordings, were proud of them. It’s a very honest record and would be a shame if it was lost. When we went into this we had no idea of what direction we would take, what came out is merely a product of us 5 in the same room with our instruments. With hindsight this first EP is very much a document of where we were at the time of recording, it’s the darkest of the upcoming releases, maybe we were angrier or maybe more insecure but there's definitely something to be obtained from it.
