Houston Calls have announced details of their last show ever as a band.

The band will play on August 29th at the School Of Rock in East Hackensack, New Jersey with support to come from Paulson, Red Light Green Light, The Tonight Life and Hoover Flags (ex-Folly).

Houston Calls Member Comments on Split

Tom from Houston Calls has commented on the bands recent decision to split up.


The signs were all there. We all pretty much saw this coming it was just a question of how soon or when is enough. Another chapter in my life is finished, but I'd say this was the bulk of the book so far. I think in my head I knew it was getting closer to a time to call it off, but in my heart I wanted it to keep going. Okie and I decided that after losing 2 members if any of the 3 of us remaining were to quit that we'd call it all off. Josh quit. Just worn out of getting friends to fill in, it became more of a joke vacation trip then a goal to reach people. I had some great ideas in my head of music and plan to play with others to get them out. It's probably not my calling but it's definitely something for which I live.

Thanks to my great friends who definitely know who they are. I can't believe the overflow of support I've received in e-mails. It's overwhelming in an incredibly positive way. It was a great run...almost too much fun. Here's to the memories. Here's to Nick Joyce for sticking through something crazy us. He defines loyalty.

Houston Calls Split Up

"After about 6 years, hundreds of shows, a bunch of great tours in 3 continents outside of our own, Houston Calls is calling it a day. Suffice it to say, we didn't come to this decision lightly, and it's one that pains us, even though it's what we've decided is best for us. The continued instability surrounding our band's various situations (finances, finding new members, touring, etc.) has overshadowed what our band has always prioritized: making some alright music and having a great time with our friends - the ones in our van and the ones we meet on the road. To elaborate a little, it's tough packing up your entire life and leaving friends and family for months at a time. It's unstable, it's uncertain, and it's pretty darn unhealthy. It's also, as we're all looking a little to our own futures, unsustainable at this level. The economic realities of living hand to mouth at our ages gets to be a little daunting. And seeing very few open doors for us as a band, we decided that it's best for us to move on.

That being said, it was also a blast. We've met people that we can be proud to call friends, and some people that can only be described as classic characters. We've gotten to release two full length CDs that we are still infinitely proud of; We've met thousands of warm, gracious, and very kind fans - to many of whom we've been ungracious house guests. Words fail here - we can't thank you all strongly or sincerely enough.

Houston Calls has two more shows left. First, we're incredibly excited to be able to play Farewell's CD Release Show at Greene Street, in Greensboro, NC on August 22nd. They're some of our best friends, and we couldn't think of a better band to open for. Secondly, we will be having a final hometown show at School of Rock on August 29th. As all this news is still pretty fresh, more details to be decided and will follow. Thanks for all your continued support over the years.

Bassist Leaves Houston Calls

Bassist Jarrett Seltzer has left Houston Calls.

He released a statement about his departure:

'Hello All,

As some of you may of heard I played my final show with Houston Calls last night. After playing for so many years I have had to put the band behind me and move onto something new and different. I have been in a band with Tom since May 23rd, 1996. He told me to pick up a bass and start a punk band with him. Through that came the years that ended up with Houston Calls being formed. These guys are some of my best friends and it was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in quite some time. I have toured the world with them and gotten to do what so few actually get to. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

After years of touring something about myself changed. I used to want to be on the road 365 days a year. I guess overtime I just started to grow out of it. I have been touring since I got out of high school in the year 2000. It just started to take its toll and I didn’t find myself enjoying it like I used to. While on tour I would count how many days were left until I would be home. It just didn’t feel right anymore.

These guys are my best friends in the world and I wish them nothing but the best. I decided to leave because I didn’t want to tour anymore. There were no internal conflicts or fights that brought me to this point. It’s really about wanting to be home and establish more of a “normal” life.

I want to first thank Tom, Okie, Josh & Jose for all the years spent together. Through the good and the bad we kept it together no matter what anyone told us or how down and out we may of felt. I’d also like to thank Zach our Booking Agent, Richard & Stefanie over at Drive Thru and everyone else we have worked with over the years. Of course I need to thank anyone who ever came to a show and showed their support for our band. It’s been a pleasure getting to meet so many different people and I’m very grateful for the opportunites I have had thanks to this band. It means more to me then I can even explain.
