The Ataris Kris Roe Involved In Car Crash
The Ataris' Kris Roe was involved in a bad car crash earlier this week.Statement from the band:
"Kris was in a bad car wreck this week. His car was totaled, front end completely smashed, roof rip opened. The person in front of him slammed on their brakes unexpectedly, he swerved out of the way to avoid hitting them, causing him to slam into a massive LED construction warning sign. The sign crashed through his front window, then flew over his car ripping off a huge section of the roof.
Fortunately he was wearing his seatbelt and is expected to make a full recovery.
Due to the circumstances we regret to inform you that we have no other choice but to cancel our appearance next week in San Francisco. We plan on making another trip out to California in early July with our friends Gasoline Heart and will be booking those dates shortly. Our next scheduled show is May 29th in Chicago at Subterranean. That show will still go on as planned. See you there. Thanks."
Review: Kris Roe - Bournemouth iBar - 19/01/09
'So Long Astoria' was a record that once packed out music venues globally, yet on a cold January evening on the south coast, it's being played in its entirety to a crowd of little over 100. Perhaps it demonstrates how far The Ataris have fallen from their heyday, when this record was released, the iBar probably wasn't open, fast forward nearly six years and its playing host to an acoustic rendition of this classic pop-punk record.
The show itself is great, crowd surfing to an acoustic show doesn't happen very often, and the audience reaction serves as a testament to the strength of 'So Long Astoria's tracks half a decade after its release. The highlights are perhaps obvious, as 'In This Diary' and 'Boys of Summer' inspire the largest singalongs, with pint glasses held aloft. Nostalgia is clearly the formula for the evening, and Kris Roe's set is a resounding success.
The contemporary setting though, serves as a harsh reminder that Kris Roe's musical career has been overshadowed by his past work. The Ataris are currently in the process of recording a new album, yet it seems likely that after its release they will yet again revert to the back catalogue to draw a crowd.
Will this song live on forever? No, but for this one tour, were all quite happy living in 2003.

Kris Roe Show Cancelled and Added
Tonight's Kris Roe acoustic show in Northampton. However a show at Bristol's The Croft on January 22nd has been added. Roe posted the following:
"Regretfully, The show in Northampton, U.K. was cancelled on me today last minute due to issues with not having a proper venue or something along those lines... regardless, it was completely out of my control. If you bought tickets for that show, you should contact the people who were puttng the show on or take them back to your place of purchase for a refund. There are a couple other shows near Northampton that are very close so you need not worry.Just check the tour dates page and head out to an alternate show nearby!
The good news is that within minutes I was able to get another show sorted. Thanks to our friend Matt at The Croft, in Bristol U.K. where I will now be playing on Jan. 22nd. Since newport is fairly close, we decided to make this another show where I will be playing "So Long, Astoria" in it's entirety! Don't fret though.I will also be playing the key songs from "Blue Skies" and a couple others thrown in as well! Cheers! Spread the word! See you all there!"
