Album Review: Building Rome – Nightmare

Concept albums tend to fall into two categories, those that clearly tell a story and those where the so-called concept is only apparent to the band. ‘Nightmare’, the fourth release by St Louis natives Building Rome, is unfortunately in the latter camp. The album is apparently loosely based on the film Jacob’s Ladder, though I wouldn’t know had I not read this information on the band’s website. However, just because the story is hard to read does not mean this is a terrible album, in fact ‘Nightmare’ is actually quite good. The album is upbeat and full of energy, not to mention really well produced. The only moments were Building Rome suffer is when they sacrifice the raw energy for an attempt at raw emotion. Building Rome’s sound is extremely hard to pinpoint, musically they are akin to the angular poppunk of Billy Talent, yet the vocals provided by frontman Jon Heisserer are very similar to Billie Joe Armstrong. The mish mash of sound actually serves the band well in allowing them to create a niche of their own.

Nightmare of You Update

An update from Nightmare of You can be read below.

"Nightmare Of You Are Back! It is official, chaps. We have completed 6 full weeks of an entire headlining tour of America. Nightmare Of You are BACK and in full swing once again. Myriads amounts of gratitude to all you kind souls for coming out and supporting us on the road through and through, tour after tour. You help put gas in our tank. We were fortunate enough to have some really good bands out with us on this run and we hope that you checked them out and supported them as well. This is a very special week for us. It has been quite some time since our last full length album and finally, our new record is available now on Itunes and Amazon. For those of you waiting for the actual physical copies, those will be in stores on August 11th. We apologize for any confusion this might have caused, but as you can imagine, being an independent band that runs their own label while touring full time can lead to certain tiny errors here and there. Alas, we are humans (for now). Again, we can't stress enough to you how thankful we are to you for buying our music, whether it's digitally or in stores. Whethere it's seeing our show or buying a T-shirt. This is the ONLY way we are able to tour. So, as we always say, thank you for supporting independent music. For any one that lives in the tri-state area, we will be playing an official record release show/party at Looney Tunes record store on Long Island on August 12th. THIS SHOW IS FREE! We will be playing at 7pm and hanging out afterwards with all of you who come. Looking very forward to this! Quick summary: Thanks to every one who came out to our tour. Our album is officially being sold digitally on Itunes as of today. You can get physical cd's at your local record stores starting August 11th. Don't forget about our free show on Long Island on August 12th. Have a lovely time of it all. -Brandon (Nightmare Of You)"

Nightmare of You Enter Studio

Nightmare of You have negan recording their new album with producer and engineer Brian Thorn.

A full myspace blog post by the band stated:

"Dearest Friends,
You might have had some thoughts in the deep, dark, murky, and demonic depths of your unconscious mind that the day would never arrive, but it is my pleasure and privilege to be the first to tell you that the day HAS in fact arrived. Today we have officially started the tracking of our new album, which has yet to be named.

With the help of engineer/producer, and quite possibly the most beautiful man I have ever laid eyes on, Brian Thorn will be taking the reigns alongside 'Nightmare Of You' to help create a sonic masterpiece of explosive ear candy and playful, yet daring psychedelia.

This album is being recorded at The Magic Shop studio in the currently frigid, fashion capital of New York City known to all the dream chasers and bird-like eaters as Soho. We are hoping with this record to add as much Good-spirited Love and Soul to the intersection of Crosby and Spring street that it is so desperately lacks and needs (You models and cutthroat sociopath fashion moguls know who you are). Many of the greatest bands to have ever existed have recorded here over the years, and we are honored to add 'Nightmare Of You' to this list.

Right now Mike is laying down some drum tracks. Our friend Brandon (not to be confused to with me) is shooting some video footage that we hope to post as soon as possible. We will be posting new blog updates, pictures, and videos from the studio every day so keep checking back for more nonsense. Cheers, big ears!

Yours, Brandon
P.S. Don't forget that we have some shows coming up.
P.S.S. We still have limited edition double vinyl's left for sale.
P.S.S.S. Hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday"
