The Xcerts Forced To Cancel Second Show Of UK Tour

The Xcerts have been forced to cancel the second show of their UK tour tonight (January 20th) due to front man Murray Macleod falling ill. The band had to pull out of their show yesterday in Bath also.

Macleod posted the following statement:

"Hello everybody,

Hope you are all well. Sadly, I have some more bad news. We have to cancel tonight's show in Preston. I thought a day of rest would sort me out but it would appear I need another day of rest to reach full recovery. The good news is I am feeling much better and my throat is on the mend, I just can't take the risk of prolonging this situation and I really can't ake the risk of damaging my vocal chords. I am beyond gutted as I know this show was set to be fantastic, but sadly I have fallen ill at a really inconvenient time. We are going find a rescheduled date within the next week. All original tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled show, or if you would like a refund, please get in touch with the venue.

I cannot apologise enough! I feel like I'm letting a lot of people down but hopefully you can all understand this is just one of those horrible things that happens.

As for Aberdeen and Glasgow, I should be able to perform. We are currently on route to Aberdeen. I am wrapped up listening to Wilco, drinking copious amounts of pineapple juice and water so hopefully this extra day of rest will do the trick.

Thankyou for understanding team.

Murray."

Album Review: The Xcerts - Slackerpop EP

In the last few years, The Xcerts have proved a healthy new addition to the bright UK rock scene and while their identity was still in limbo with 'In The Cold Wind We Smile' (the claim to their musical similarity to Biffy Clyro's earlier work was an oft debated issue in that case), their follow-up 'Scatterbrain' was much stronger in its definition and embodied their growth as a rock outfit. Their evolution saw the spawning of more consistently unified vision throughout the songs that often felt more direct and powerful, gritty and soft, yet never confused in their nature.

On Halloween, they released the 'Slackerpop' EP which contains 'Slackerpop' from their latest album as well as alternative versions for 'Gum', 'I See Things Differently', 'He Sinks, She Sleeps' and 'Young Belane'. 'Slackerpop' is one of the finest examples of the newly discovered bombast the band have added to their palette and is, essentially, a swift monster of a rock track. With this EP, however, the attractive part lies in the alternative takes on some of their other songs. Effectively, the tracks are all stripped down from their original counterparts and therefore come off as more intimate as heavy distortion is traded for clean-ish guitars and soft drumming.

Live Review: Taking Back Sunday - Guildhall, Southampton (02/09/11)

Southampton is home to the final date of Taking Back Sunday’s rescheduled tour and it is openers The Xcerts who get the raw end of the deal going onstage half an hour after doors open with the crowd still streaming in. However, they have the full attention of those already in the building with their precision post-hardcore. Whoever decides the order of support bands these days have gotten it all wrong yet again not putting this trio as main support.

The biggest disappointment of the evening comes in the form of The New Regime who storm out all big hair and rock moves but minus any decent or memorable tracks. The audience’s complete lack of interest was clear throughout the set and feelings were voiced when Taking Back Sunday tried to muster applause for their main support is met with heckles of ‘they’re shit!’ and murmurs of agreement.
