Alter The Press! Presents: Picture Atlantic

Since forming five years ago, San Francisco Bay Area progressive rock band, Picture Atlantic has taken the west coast by storm, releasing three EPs and a full length album, playing hundreds of shows, and opening for the likes of Biffy Clyro, The Higher, Daphne Loves Derby and even Coldplay.

With a mix of light guitar pop (see 'Joust') and fiery indie rock, the trio have been compared to bands such as Death Cab For Cutie. Whilst their slight experimental touch gives the band even more potential to grow and expand.

For Fans Of: Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie, Interpol, and The Strokes.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Picture Atlantic: Bottom line is that we have immense passion for what we do. Looking around and seeing modern music where it is, is a real heartbreaker for us. Bands don't seem to stand for anything anymore, and the things they do stand behind are pretty transient. We don't do this band to appease other people. We don't do this band to fit into some trend. We don't do this band to jump on a bandwagon. We care about our music with complete heart and soul, and if that isn't enough for people, then god help us.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Picture Atlantic: eally, it was your basic "friends get together to play music" sort of thing. The real stand out in the equation though, was that we started the band in response to the overwhelming and depressing situation the local San Jose Hardcore music scene had created. Cookie cutter bands. Everyone wants the same low standard of music. Something had to be done I suppose. I got asked to join in on a project they wanted to start. They tried to make it seem like it was a big audition and all that. I did get the gig though. I think I was lucky in the sense that I was the only singer they knew that wasn't trying to sound like New Found Glory.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
Picture Atlantic: A fan came up to me outside a show once, and said something along the lines of "I am chronically ill, and I spend a lot of time being in and out of the hospital. Sometimes your music is one of the only things that keeps me going through the hard times". Almost made me want to cry. I feel like that is something you say to Nirvana or U2, not some little indie rock outfit from Santa Clara. It was immensely humbling. If that is all I can accomplish with my music, then mission accomplished.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Picture Atlantic: Tour lots and record lots. We have a new batch of songs that I think will be killer. My hope is to get those out soon and tour on them.
