Sonisphere Festival (UK) 2012 Canceled

The 2012 Sonisphere Festival in the United Kingdom has been canceled.

The organizers released the following statement:

"It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.

Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.

We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.

Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents."

Ever since its inception in 2009, Sonisphere has gone from strength to strength, taking its roster of heavy metal heavyweights throughout the whole of Europe every year.

Now, in 2011, with arguably its most impressive line-up to date, the last leg of the tour finally arrived in the middle of the sun and the rain at Knebworth, UK.

Feature: Festival Preview - Sonisphere (UK) 2011

This weekend rock fans from all over the UK will head to Knebworth for three days of non-stop rock with day one featuring the 'Big 4' of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeath, whilst the ever-growing Biffy Clyro will headline day two before Slipknot close the festival on Sunday with their first UK show since the passing of Paul Gray last year.

However despite the headliners there are many more to check out throughout the three days. From Limp Bizkit to Weezer to You Me At Six on the Apollo (headline) stage to the smaller stages that feature the likes of Title Fight, Don Broco, Rolo Tomassi, Me vs Hero and countless more.

On the whole the third Sonisphere UK festival has one of the strongest line-ups you will see all summer and its diversity will definitely meet fans needs.

"We have tried so hard to get OMS back in shape in time for Sonisphere - music can be a funny path - our sounds were finding ground but then the ground just seemed to crumble - we have been working so hard to make it all come together but in truth it has be a real struggle we tried so hard to be ready but the fact is that as it stands today we are not ready - we were desperately not wanting to let any OMS fans down but we sadly have to pull out of the Sonisphere gig on July 9. Huge apologies from all of us if you bought a ticket especially to see us play - life is life folks and we are genuinely sorry. We want you to know that this is also just one gig we’re cancelling - we are still focused as a band and will continue to write and rehearse new material as we have been for the past 8 months and when we feel ready we will take the stage again and see you all in the pit - peace from Yap"
