Feature: Festival Preview - 2000 Trees Festival

After an amazing year in 2010, culminating with a Grass Roots Festival Award win at the UK Festival Awards, Two Thousand Trees is back with another stellar line-up of more than 80 acts. Its fifth year at Upcote Farm in Cheltenham sees yet another expansion in capacity with it now holding 4,500 festival goers, which will welcome in the edition of a new stage this year aptly named The Cave, bringing with it the heavier side of things. In true Trees fashion the line-up this year brings an array of different acts spanning more genres than you could shake a stick at, with just one important factor tying them all together, every single act hails from the UK, making this festival a showcase of some of the finest talent we have to offer. Fans will be making their way over to the farm this weekend from 14th to the 16th to witness one of its strongest line-ups to date.

Feature: Festival Preview - Sonisphere (UK) 2011

This weekend rock fans from all over the UK will head to Knebworth for three days of non-stop rock with day one featuring the 'Big 4' of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeath, whilst the ever-growing Biffy Clyro will headline day two before Slipknot close the festival on Sunday with their first UK show since the passing of Paul Gray last year.

However despite the headliners there are many more to check out throughout the three days. From Limp Bizkit to Weezer to You Me At Six on the Apollo (headline) stage to the smaller stages that feature the likes of Title Fight, Don Broco, Rolo Tomassi, Me vs Hero and countless more.

On the whole the third Sonisphere UK festival has one of the strongest line-ups you will see all summer and its diversity will definitely meet fans needs.

On first hearing of the festival's name, one might recall The Who’s first live album aptly titled under the same name, recorded at The University Of Leeds in the early ‘70s. The idea behind the music event of today is inspired by the musical flare within the region, past and present, and to showcase this emerging talent, alongside a host of budding international acts. Now onto its fifth year running and selling out three years in a row, this multi-venue music and arts festival continues to thrive, celebrate and acknowledge all things creative in the City of Leeds.

2010 has been another superb year for music, with great releases from bands new and old. Here at Alter The Press, it's got us thinking can 2011 follow it up? The answer is a resounding yes!

For our 2011 preview, we compiled a list of over a 100 bands and artists and then asked our writers to pick out 50 acts to feature. We'll admit it was tough and there maybe some obvious names we've missed out but nevertheless we can promise 2011 is going to be a great year, with both new and old bands set to make their mark.

Yellowcard
Words by Jon Ableson
After a two and a half year break, one of the most influential pop-punk bands of our time is back! Yellowcard will return in March with their seventh studio album, 'When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes'. If the record sounds anything like the recently debuted live track, 'For You, And You Denial', we could be looking at possibly an early contender for one of the best albums of 2011.

Feature: 2011 Preview - Labels Preview

For the last few years the playing field for labels to compete on has gradually started to level. The information age has allowed anyone with an internet connection, a strong work ethic and hell of alot of passion can put a record out and have it reach a global audience. As part of Alter The Press' 2011 preview, we're going to be shining a spotlight some of the labels that are showing the big boys a thing or two about innovation, dedication and the simple fact that a good record is a good record regardless.
