The Starting Line Announce "Say It Like You Mean It" Album Tour

The Starting Line have announced they will be heading out on tour later this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their "Say It Like You Mean It" album. The band will perform the album cover-to-cover. Dates and a video announcement from the band can be found below.

The Starting Line will perform their "Say It Like You Mean It" album in its entirety on December 29th at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.

Interview: The Starting Line

One of the undoubted highlights of this year's Slam Dunk Festival was the triumphant return to the UK of Pennsylvania pop-punkers, The Starting Line. It’s been five years since the boys played a show on UK soil and Alter the Press were lucky enough to get a chance to catch up with them to see what they’ve been up to for half a decade and what’s in store for the future.

Alter The Press: You're back in the UK since reforming. What’s prompted this reformation?
Matt Watts (guitar): We started playing some Holiday shows back home after taking a three year hiatus and it just felt really good being around each other playing music again. We wanted to do things on a really minimal basis and only if a really cool opportunity came up - we know Ben from Slam Dunk and he wanted to bring us over and we just jumped at the opportunity.

ATP: What have you been doing in the mean time?
Matt: I’ve been in artist management for like the last five years (working for Force Media Management).
Mike Golla (guitar): I work for an engineering company as an engineer. It’s not really cool but...

The Starting Line Update

The Starting Line's Matt Watts has confirmed the band are now "more active" and posted the following statement:

"I just happened to read all the tweets and postings about everyone's excitement about the TSL "break" being over. First off, I'd like to thank everyone for the excitement and enthusiasm, it really means a lot! It wasn’t intended to sound like an official announcement that the break is over, we all felt like it was over once we started playing shows again, but I guess hadn't publicly acknowledged so.

So to address it:

As you've probably noticed, TSL has become slightly more active, and we even have a few new songs in the works. The main reason behind the break was to take some time and evaluate things, touring for 8+ years got really exhausting and we all needed to take a step away to see if TSL was something that we all still loved and wanted to pursue. After taking a much needed break, we're all at a point where we truly love and appreciate what we were able to do together, and genuinely miss playing shows, writing, and being around one another.

Playing shows with the band, and even just getting together to hang out has been more fun than ever, everything is feeling great and natural, and seems as exciting as when we first started out. There's just an undeniable chemistry and energy present that seemed to be lacking near the end of things.

That being said, we're playing more shows and writing new music, but there's no specific timeline that we're on, nor do we have any real plans (as of right now), to be touring full time. That doesn't mean that we won't be playing shows in your city/town, it just means that we probably won't be taking a traditional approach to touring and being an active band. All of us have various things and commitments happening in our lives that aren't really conducive to year round touring. However, we do plan on playing shows more frequently and (slowly) working on a new album at some point. We’re also trying to figure out a way to get to some of the cities that we haven’t played since we went on “break” (talking to all of you on the West Coast).

Interview: Hit The Lights

Hit The Lights exploded onto the pop-punk scene five years ago but after the release of their second album, 'Skip School Start Fights' in 2008 it’s fair to say it’s all gone a bit quiet. Nevertheless the five-piece are set to return in the autumn with a new album on Universal Records.

Alter The Press! had a quick catch up with guitarist Omar Zehery to find out exactly what the band have been up to this last year. Omar talked about being part of Universal, working with Yellowcard's Ryan Key and Kenny Vasoli from The Starting Line, future tour plans, and more.

ATP: What made you decide to come back to Slam Dunk for the second year running?
Omar: Ben, who runs this. We met him years ago and he put us on shows at the Cockpit in Leeds so he just bought us back which is amazing. We were really stoked about that and the fact he would like us enough to bring us back 2 years in a row.

ATP: You played Slam Dunk last year and it feels like it’s been pretty quiet on the Hit The Lights front, what have you been doing?
Omar: We have spent the last 2 years writing a record. It’s been a whacky time. Definitely for us it was shitty to be off the road for all that time, but the whole thing is going to be completely worth it - the new record, the songs we’ve done and the way our minds have been blown way open. It’s really put a magnifying glass on what’s important to us about song writing and songs in general. So we’ve spent like 2 years, had 40-something songs; scrapped the majority of them and we’re going with the shit that we’ve written in the last few months.

Reel Big Fish + Less Than Jake To Headline 2011 Slam Dunk Festival

Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish have been confirmed to headline the 2011 Slam Dunk Festival.

3OH!3, The Starting Line, Mayday Parade, We Are The Ocean, Framing Hanley, Deaf Havana and MC Lars have also been announced to play.

The festival will take place at Leeds University and The University Of Hertfordshire on May 28th and 29th with tickets going on sale February 18th.

The Starting Line Postpone Holiday Show Tomorrow

In anticipation of a major snow storm that is set to hit the NJ area starting early tomorrow (Sunday, December 26th) morning, The Starting Line's sold out Starland Ballroom Holiday Show in New Jersey has been postponed to Friday, January 7th.

All tickets will be honored for the new date.
