Feature: Jumping Ships UK Tour Diary

With the recent release of their latest single, 'Heart and Hope', Brighton's Jumping Ships recently headed out on a UK tour.

During the tour, the alternative pop-rockers put together an exclusive tour diary exclusively for Alter The Press.

Show 1 – The Albert w/ Flood of Red (Brighton, 23/02/11)

To kick off our tour we literally traveled down the road to support Glasgow’s finest Flood of Red. After dragging our full drum kit down to the venue, we realized that the rather accommodating Glaswegians had brought a spare kit for their support acts. That kind act meant we had to lug our kit back before performing. The saving grace had to be seeing a great set before heading back home, just minutes away.

Show 2 – The Cellars (Portsmouth 28/02/11)

After a short gap in the tour we got to pick up our tour van, which was lovingly borrowed our friends in the band Jouis. This van, full of character, has a letter ‘J’ imprinted on its side, also has a key to the ignition used to be a nail crafted into a key shape (of course?!). Named ‘The old LDV’ (‘Jean Claude’ – got the pun yet?) it took us west to The Cellars, Portsmouth.

Alter The Press! Presents: Jumping Ships

With a solid début EP in 'Orientation', Brighton's Jumping Ships have won over critics and fans with their brand of British alt-rock. 'Orientation' contains six well-delivered tracks that include plenty of urgency and favourable structures, and has seen the band be compared to likes of Biffy Clyro and Reuben.

From the upbeat tempo of 'The Whole Truth' to the fiery 'Temper Tempermental', Jumping Ships make a good impression and definitely worth giving a chance.

For Fans Of: Reuben, Biffy Clyro and Manchester Orchestra.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Jumping Ships: Readers should check us out if they want to hear quintessentially 'British Alt Rock'. We like to write catchy vocal hooks with instrumentation that has depth and doesnt tire after a few listens. We all come from different musical backgrounds and have been involved in very different projects. We listen to alot of post-hardcore, alt-rock and hand on heart emo - also alot of american indie as well. Alot of people say that our influences shine through in the material we have written, and we beleive that as well.

Album Review: Jumping Ships - Orientation

Brighton's Jumping Ships bring a strong, dynamic indie rock sound with their debut EP, 'Orientation' as the opening track, 'Matterhorn' explodes with urgency, intriguing lyrics and light guitar notes that compliment Michael Williams' vocals well. Its a combination that is easily able to keep you interested. Whilst 'The Bad Outweighed The Good' is a more straight-forward rock number with good harmonies and a strong chorus that flows nicely together.

Perhaps the standout track here is 'The Whole Truth' with its upbeat tempo, driving guitars and confident vocal delivery. Its a style that suits the band well and very favourable. In addition it hints at the band having a subtle pop sensibility. Unfortunately 'Brickhouse' fails to keep up the momentum and falls by the wayside here, as its angular guitar sound all too familiar. Although it does add to the EP's consistency.
