New Jersey has done it again. LeATHERMOUTH are living proof that the best hardcore bands do come from The Garden State. Frank Iero, despite his claim to fame being the guitarist of My Chemical Romance, has returned to his roots by conjuring up 10 songs of what can only be described as, nasty, ugly and raw. Iero speaks his mind about how the world is a dark and horrible place to live in, all in a space of just over 21 minutes.

New Jersey hardcore group LeATHERMOUTH have signed to Epitaph Records with plans to release their debut album in early 2009.Featuring founding members Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance (vocals) and Rob Hughes (guitar) along with various friends who have toured and recorded with them, LeATHERMOUTH was formed in a garage in New Jersey in 2007 with the sole intention of making raw confrontational punk rock that not only served as a mouth piece for Iero's ire but also as a reminder to today's youth that sometimes it's the loudmouths who make change happen in this tumultuous world.
"For me LeATHERMOUTH is how I can vent about all the bullshit that I see going on in the world that makes me ill," says Iero. "I try to belabor the topics people want to forget exist. LeATHERMOUTH is where I can vomit out all the aggression that has built up inside. After recording or playing a LM show I feel empty of all that hatred that's been bottled up. It's a pleasant, cathartic experience. I would love to not feel the way I do about certain things, and have rainbows and birds chirping in my head, but that's just not the way I'm built. I am embarrassed by my emotions and originally wanted to keep LeATHERMOUTH anonymous... but fuck it, none of us are perfect, the world is going to shit, and someone has to say it. I think it would be worse if I hid from it."
Once the group had finished recording they approached Epitaph Record's founder and president Brett Gurewitz about signing to the label. After listening to the sheer intensity and songwriting of the music Gurewitz was sold and signed the band to the label.
"That was a real no brainer," Iero adds. "I've been a fan of the label ever since I was young. They take chances with the artists they work with, and they let their artists be themselves. I have a great deal of respect for Epitaph, and when I decided that I didn't want to release the LeATHERMOUTH record myself there was only one other label that I felt would be right for this project. I feel honored to be accepted into the Epitaph family, it is something that I've thought about ever since I was a kid. I hope I don't fuck it up."

Review: Reggie and the Full Effect/Leathermouth + Support - New York Highline Ballroom - 7th September 2008
Sunday’s are never usually the most exciting of evenings. Places are closed, and everyone usually stays in. Tonight is the reason to make statement change. Despite this being Reggie’s final tour, the line up speaks for itself.
Its 7pm and Warship hit the stage. The venue isn’t too busy but you are foolish to miss tonight’s display. They play an energetic half hour set comprised of a different selection of songs. The shocking statement is that they have only been together for four months.
Next up we have Leathermouth. A group made up of close friends, fronted by My Chemical Romance guitarist, Frank Iero. Despite the fact first two rows of fans are comprised of young females here to see the guitarist, do not let that put you off. Leathermouth play nothing but a short but incredible set. Iero has gone back to his hardcore-punk roots, and exceeds everyone’s expectations. Two songs in, you get lost in the music. Songs such as ‘Body Snatchers for ever’ and ‘Murder Was The Case They Gave Me’ go down like a treat. The only complaint is that we have no album out to till later this year.
Tonight’s main support comes from MC Chris. Rapping about being a nerd and selections about him never seeing women’s genitalia seem humorous but the novelty wares off after the first five minutes. The crowd seem to enjoy the rapper and gets a warm homecoming reception.
After announcing this is the last Reggie and the Full Effect tour, anticipations are nothing but high. James Dewees, sporting a mummy outfit to reveal a shirt and boxers once launching into the set. With classics such as ‘FOOD’ and ‘Congratulations Smack and Katy’ and people handing him drinks during the set, the crowd go nuts. Despite earlier on the tour speaking about the ‘reunion of The Get Up Kids’ and ‘Reggie will be touring again’, nothing is spoken of tonight. For an encore they come back onstage sporting blonde wigs, flannel shirts and introducing themselves as a grunge rock band from Seattle then call it a night.
You can easily tell this tour is not about making money by ‘cashing in on a farewell tour’. It is about group of friends doing what they love best. Everyone is helping each other out. MC Chris came out and sang with Reggie, Leathermouth’s Frank Iero played bass for their set as well as Warship's Francis Mark on drums. Whether is being to a full house or a crowd of 10 people, they probably wouldn’t of cared as they all had friends and family enjoying tonight’s festivities.
Tonight’s show at the end just leaves you confused and wondering what is happening in the world of Reggie and the Full Effect? Your going to have to ask James Dewees himself.
Leathermouth (Frank Iero side project) play first show on current US tour
Demolitionlove on LiveJournal has reviewed the first Leathermouth set on their current US tour with Reggie and the Full Effect:Frank wants us all to know that this is not fucking MCR shit (despite the beautiful fact that all their equipment is labeled with red tape that clearly says MCR and Revenge on it) and after asking for a show of hands of who was under 18, declared that having underage girls at a show is a new thing for him. He's so special. We also learned that Frank still has all his best kindergarten skills in tact despite his knack for wanting to burn you in your fucking house now. He loves to play and share with others... his hands, his mic and perhaps his spit. Frank Iero needs to work a little on his 'indoor voice' but we can make an exception just this once.
The show itself was clearly amazing and despite the wind and rain that pelted Leathermouth on their way to Florida and continued to fall during the show soaking all of us in line and on the way out the door, they managed to make it here and put on a fucking kick ass show. The Social, in Orlando, is a venue that wasn't meant for more than 300 people, maybe 400 so it was hard to wander around without running into someone incredibly wonderful in all their screaming glory. We all screamed because we couldn't hear a fucking thing but that's why it's so great. At some point, Frank promised that some day they'd out out a CD but it was blantantly obvious that with the way we were all screaming back, none of us were holding our breath for that to come to fruition.
Dressed all in white with t-shirts that they had made themselves with handwritten letters, that had you lined them up for mugshots would have spelled out MOUTH, they looked pure like the virgins we are sure they all are. Frank showed us just how virginal he claimed to be since he spent a good part of the show kneeling on stage. Could those screams be actual prayers to prevent him from being mobbed in the latter part of that show by the massive attack of the aforementioned underage girls? Sadly, no. God doesn't love thieves and when we caught a glimpse of Frank sporting sunglasses that looked much like Gerard Way's Starsky & Hutch lenses, we knew that he had either stole them from his MCR bandmate or Gerard had taught him well. The band sounded amazing. They were tight (random mention of pants is fleeting) and performed well together, especially for their first show of the tour.

Despite being the guitarist from My Chemical Romance, fans should be warned now this is not a Black Parade follow up. Frank Iero (Pencey Prep, Give Up The Ghost) looks like he is returning to his hardcore punk roots with his new project, Leathermouth.Gearing up for there first US tour (supporting Reggie and the Full Effect), the band have confirmed their full length release will NOT be released on Iero's Skeleton Crew label but on a label which is STILL to be confirmed. The
