Album Review: Broadway Calls - Toxic Kids EP

Broadway Calls' first, self-titled, album was a fine piece of midwestern punk rock with its catchy hooks and Alkaline Trio-esque backbone, while 'Good Views, Bad News' kept its influences alive but alight with a true sense of freshness and youthful urgency. As we wait for album number three, the band have a released the six-track 'Toxic Kids EP' that should fill the gap nicely as the Oregon bunch are hard at work.

Broadway Calls To Record New EP

Broadway Calls will begin recording a new EP later this month.

The band posted the following update:

"Hey, I think it’s time to let you guys know that we’ll be recording a new EP next month. In mid June we’re going down to The Atomic Garden studios in East Palo Alto for a few days to record a few songs and get them out to you as fast as possible.

While we were in California last month, we recorded a new song for the Comadre Mixtape #5. It turned out great, and Jack’s studio and recording techniques just keep getting better and better. So we decided to go back down there and record an EP. We want something new out for our tour we’re planning around the Fest this fall. While having a new LP would be sweet, it just won’t be able to happen in time if we’re going to make it the way we want to.

We don’t have a whole lot of details yet. Out of the songs we’ve been writing for the last year, we’re still trying to decide which ones to put on the EP and which ones to save for the full length. And, we’re still writing. We’ll continue to write all the way up until we go into the Blasting Room later this year.

Oh and that mixtape comes out in just a few days! It’s a benefit for Japan, and you can hear it by donating and downloading. June 1st!

Broadway Calls Bassist/Vocalist Kicked Out

Broadway Calls bassist/vocalist Matt Koenig has been kicked out of the band. Adam Willis, formerly of Countdown to Life, will replace Koenig.

Koenig told PunkNews.org:

"Hello today, it's Matt Koenig here to break the sad sad news that i am no longer in Broadway Calls. I was asked to leave the band on the basis that I was decidedly no longer friends with the other band members, that my playing was "barely passable" and my "lack of song writing contribution". So that's that. People change, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. i find the whole thing unfortunate. My opinion is that i was an equally contributing member of the band i loved so much. I now get to focus on better things in my life.

I'm in no way done playing music, as I've already started a few bands with my friends around Portland. I'll be attending this years Fest in Gainsville, sure I'll see plenty of you there. But for now I'll put the focus of my life on my family and my wonderful new wife.

Over the past 4 and a half years I've met countless amazing people, too many to name but some of which are now my closest friends. Played hundreds of shows. Had dreams come true by touring with some of my favorite bands, and seeing more of the US and Canada then I would have ever hoped. Also, visiting Europe 4 times over was equally astounding as it was humbling. Getting to work with Adeline and Side One Dummy Records as well as Blasting Room Studios was an honor. An especially large 'thank you' to all of the people at those camps, without you this would have been a much different trip. And to anyone and everyone i met along the way, Thank you. I am forever changed. I now leave you with this, a fitting quote that i believe describes my time in BC perfectly, said by a much more well spoken man than myself...

Live Review: Set Your Goals, Broadway Calls and Fireworks - TJ's, Newport - 09/12/09

This promising night begins with Michigan boys Fireworks and their catchy pop-punk reminiscent of early New Found Glory. It's their first time in Europe, and the band is certainly pleased to see some people singing to every word in the crowd, with a special mention to the absolute hit 'Detroit'. The band is happy to be there and their good mood is infectious. Great job as openers.

Broadway Calls, more familiar with British crowds, are the next ones on stage. The trio provides a well-executed set, playing the best tracks off their self-titled debut ('Call It Off', 'Back to Oregon', 'Save Our Ship') and its 2009 follow-up, 'Good Views, Bad News' ('Be All That You Can Be', 'Midnight Hour', 'To The Sheets'). You wouldn't guess they're only three playing when hearing their energetic live show.

Trash Talk and More to Replace Fireworks on Anti-Flag US Tour

Broadway Calls, Star Fucking Hipsters, Trash Talk and the Menzingers will replace Fireworks as support on Anti-Flag's US tour. Aiden and Cancer Bats will be supporting throughout the tour.

Fireworks have dropped off the tour, as they will be supporting New Found Glory on their US tour.
